The Last of Tahoe...................

................you must be pretty tired of Tahoe pictures after three postings of them but i just wanted to show you these last few.........come to find out once we reached the bottom of the trail we didn't take many photos........we were too busy enjoying ourselves...........I apologize ahead of time if this is a little scattered............we've had a recent death in the family and i guess my heart is just not into this post.........but i had a few minutes between......washing clothes and doing up dishes and packing suitcases for the sad flight back to Texas so i thought i would finish up Tahoe.......When you are looking for the parking lot with the trail down to the lake , its the parking lot with this sign................. Heres a view on the way down, down.......down.......down........nice wide cleared off trail....... Yes.........this is me............i know i'm hard to recognize with that extra poundage but trust me its me..........all of me.......soaking up Tahoe into my very soul........sorry.......my feet in Tahoe was just one of the most surreal moments of my life......right there with kissing my hubby on the Eiffel Tower........... :) This is a house modeled after a Scandinavian castle........they went to great lengths to preserve the natural surroundings.........all the woodwork is amazing .......they charge $8 to take the tour which we did not do..........maybe next time........... Can you see this little guy?............Maybe you can enlarge the picture if you click on it.......its a little chipmunk! And theres one thing he absolutely knew for sure............two-legged creatures bring one thing..........FOOD......and sometimes they SHARE!............oh he wanted some food from us..........he was so brave!........its a good thing we didn't have anything because i would have been tempted! He's learned some very bad habits! Bad but adorable.......lol........ ...............and a final parting shot of Lake Tahoe............I hope a return trip is in the stars..........still so much to see and do.........a dream of mine is taking a kayak out on the lake in the early morning mist.........everything unearthly quiet except for the dip of my paddle in the water...........Hugs! deb

Tahoe Teaser.........

............first glimpse out of the parking lot at Emerald Bay.......i just love the dead tree on the right........seems like i've seen a photo like that before of Tahoe....???.....we parked in the first parking lot $5 that you leave in an envelope........there was an option to take the trail to Eagle Lake but the general consensus was to get down to Lake Tahoe.......so while looking for the way down we explored Eagle Falls........ .......beautiful and cold.......took my shoes off and rolled up my pants..........just lovely.......some people milling around.....early birds like us..........but not too many...... I LOVE this picture showing the falls and the lake. This is a picture of Fannette Island. The only island on Lake Tahoe.........i hear there is a Japanese Tea House there. We didn't go but i did see ferry boats going there so thats definitely something i want to do at a later date....... Here is just a hint of the different shades of blue of the lake........i don't know if any of our photos really do it justice........Its a mile walk down to the water.......all downhill...........but you know what goes down must come up..........oh boy.........hugs! deb

Almost Didn't Make It..................

.............to Lake Tahoe............too many beautiful things to see..........these were wild sweetpeas i think........my grandmother used to grow them.....they graced the sides of the road on the way up the mountains.............. We kept finding places to pull over and take pictures and just stand and take it all in.....I could see the cares of the past few months fall away from my husband as he smiled and took pictures and just breathed.............. I could have found a comfy rock and sat for hours dangling my feet in the water........But BUT, we had a destination in mind..........maybe sometimes its important to not have a destination just make the journey count. And honestly that is something hubby and i have learned over the years.....We used to be 'Get from point A to point B as fast as possible' kind of people when we were younger..........mellowing with age is not a bad thing.......Now if there are places we see along the way and want to stop and explore .......we do.......and we get there when we get there..... ...............unless ofcourse you have a deadline.......and we did .......of sorts......all the advice from websites suggested getting to the trail head leading to Emerald Bay early because parking fills up and i have to second that motion........we got there shortly after 9am and by the time we left.....around lunch time it was FULL.........so don't dawdle too long...........What? Your wondering where the blue water is.............soon.....soon....enjoy the journey...........Hugs! deb

Dippin' My Toes in Tahoe!

Are there places in this world you want to see? Places that you've seen pictures of a million times......but you still want to see it with your own two eyes? I have many places like that on
my 'Bucket List'. Lake Tahoe with its beautiful blue water is one of those places i have longed to see. A Father's Day gift that spread to me through association. lol. And that wasn't the only gift. I got to see a side of my husband i haven't seen in a long time......a man with a camera.....when we first met i never saw the man without a camera around his neck. It was a part of him. Then life happens as it often does........bills to pay.....mouths to feed.......camera gets pawned......all this was so, so long ago.......we just celebrated 23 years together and the pawned camera happened when our marriage was still young.....so in love.......so broke......lol........so to see him climbing over rocks......lying on his back .....to get just the 'perfect' shot was such a joy.
~
~I have more pictures to show over the next couple days.........but i'm sure you've seen many pictures of Tahoe before so i probably won't show you anything new........but i'm still pinching myself every now and then and looking over to hubby and saying 'You know we really had our toes in Lake Tahoe'........'yes dear'......
~
~I'll leave you with something i didn't know about Lake Tahoe until i saw it myself.......the sand at the beach is mixed with Fools Gold ........iron pyrite.....is that right? Is that what its called? For a minute you kind of catch your breath when you see it glinting in the sun. Beautiful. If you look at the picture above you can see some at the top of the picture. This picture was taken at Emerald Bay....so i don't know if its all over the lake or not. Gold between my toes. LOL ! Hugs! deb

A Reveal.........

.............of sorts..........times like this i wish i was more computer literate. Finally here is a picture of the castle that turned into a mushroom.......when i started i was positive this was going to be a castle on a rocky bluff and i was going to show all the rock layers and sediment well.......then i gave it a round door...........i love round doors......i would love to have a round door in a whimsical house i designed myself..........then the word Hobbit door popped in my head and would not leave and no matter how i lightly sketched and sketched trying to create a castle it would not come into being.....it was just not right......a family member after looking at it said that it looked like a hobbit door and i was like whoa....you see it too?? So i erased all the castle and tried to draw a hill over it ....you know with grass on it......maybe some flowers......well that wasn't working either....i was just about to put it away for a rainy day when i thought MUSHROOM.......
~
~ so i lightly sketched a mushroom top on it and erased....tried again....erased......you know mushrooms have very different tops...different personalities........all of a sudden i sketched one.....put my hands out and screamed .."NOBODY MOVE!!!'(well not really scream)..........it can feel like an electrical shock going thru your body when you KNOW you have it exactly right. But getting it exactly right is only half the story.......I knew i wanted my 'castle' to be BIG.....i wanted to draw it big so my mother in law who is an artist of her own.........gave me this huge pad of thick textured charcoal paper that was not white but a beige so thats what i used........problem with that is it wouldn't fit on our home scanner.....sigh......so off we went to OfficeMax.............it really goes to show how important it is to get a hold of knowledgeable person and you just never know when you go to these places........Okay so got it scanned......put on flash drive brought it home, brought it up on the computer and..........all the lines were broken .....a dashed look to it...OH NO!!!!!
~
~...........when you have struggled to carefully outline all your pencil lines with a marker....no wobbles....or mistakes.......and then to bring up a scan and all your lines are broken well.....its just a heartbreaking moment and the question comes to mind what if thats the best they can do??...maybe its the textured paper throwing it off.....what if we can't fix this........ So another trip to OfficeMax waiting to hear them tell me this is the best we can do when up walks Sandy...patient...kind .. KNOWLEDGEABLE Sandy........she figured it out......she even knew how to get rid of the beige.....woohoo!........so i got a good scan.......but when i tried to up load it to Blogger the image is really small........and i know there is a way to fix this but darn if i could figure it out......so Sandy had printed me a copy of the black and white image (non beige) so i took a picture of it with my camera and that is whats above..........whew..........Its not the best quality image but its not teeny tiny either and you can see the detail. After all that i'd love to know if you like it. I've been thinking of maybe a series of three mushrooms you know tall skinny, fat i don't know i just think i'd like to keep messing with the idea a while longer.......right now i'm working on that sketch of the owl in a tree i showed you a while back.......as much as i LOVE drawing and i'm so happy to have that back in my life i miss crafting and having all my supplies to just make and do what my little heart desires.......Thanks for stopping by! Hugs! deb

Before we moved............

I was taking pictures of some of our things for insurance purposes and i stumbled across the
photos the other day and i thought they came out pretty especially the first one here of all my swaroski crystal figurines........I probably have about 15 and i've been collecting them for a little over 20 years. If you look you can also see a purple dragon which i just LOVE and kind of blurry in the background is the bottom half of a tall fairy......aaahhh fairies and dragons and crystal oh my! I have plans once we are settled to raise the dragon up on something so he is looking down on his crystal 'subjects'...?? lol And i have some shattered glass to lay around the bottom. You know me i'm always looking for ways to recycle things well while working at that home improvement store we had a glass shower door shatter and someone had swept it all up and put it in a box and it was headed to the dumpster when i had this brilliant idea of adding it to my curio cabinet for sparkle and did i bring that shattered glass all the way from TX to Ca......you bet! This shelf seriously needs some help...........its rather skimpy........while stationed in Germany with hubby in the army i worked for a German clock store.......yep.......grandfather clocks....cuckoo clocks you name it plus they carried other stuff like David Winter houses and these roses.......darn if i can remember the name of them.....the box is long gone and no label on the bottom...........but in person they are so beautiful and delicate and i just pray they made the trip to CA in one piece........the frog....now don't laugh.......he's glass and i found him at a LOVE"S gas station while traveling.........he is so beautiful the way the light hits him he seems to glow from within and if you look close just at the edge of the photo is a blue turtle that glows just the same...couldn't resist........so now they are not as valuable as some of my other pieces but its not about that.......Its about what makes my heart flutter , my breath come a little faster.......It has to have that OOOOoooo factor.............Oh and the eggs in the back i've had them forever and they ARE real eggs. I found them on the ground after a storm blew a nest out of a tree..........and they were miraculously unbroken...... This is one of my favorite shelves. I've been collecting them forever......some from Europe......some from Mexico and the good ole' US of A. There alabaster and amber....onyx. and others i can't remember.....I need some egg stands badly. I'd like some stands of different heights....right now they are all the same and i have alot of space before the next shelf just wasted. Do you have a favorite??? Purple is my favorite color and i like the amber one too.......who am i kidding i love them all. :) Hugs! deb

Remember..........

..................this black hole??? Well i finished this little piece of MailArt and sent it on its merry way.........and i know it has arrived safely............so now i get to 'Show and Tell'. lol! ........do you every have random stories pop in your head? You know silly stuff that you dismiss as soon as they show up?..............well a MailArt buddy sent me a picture with some cute little giraffes on it and one thing led to another and the idea of how do stars get into the sky over Africa??? And the idea of kites tied to the necks of giraffes carrying the stars into the night sky popped in my head and i set out to illustrate that on this envelope.. I think i achieved the effect of day turning to night.......i love the way the stars turned out....i used acrylic paint and an old toothbrush.....the kites i made harder than they needed to be but i had this wonderful material in pink and yellow and wanted an excuse to use it...........the string was fun and fairly simple..... .........I'am the Queen of Biting Off More Than I Can Chew............the leaves i cut each one out individually and THEN painted each one individually trying to achieve the color gradient i wanted ....the leaves started out fun but i thought i would never get them done! .....the flowers came from a magazine perfume ad i do believe......... I probably like the flower effect the least........I mean it works just not as well as i hoped.......I find that cutouts from magazines work best if the pieces are kept small and this was a rather large piece so it was hard to keep smooth and the tree limbs kind of blend in with the flowers too much... i'm so curious to know if everything i glued on there stayed put....the mail lady was afraid maybe i made the address box too small but she took it anyway.........geesh........whew! all caught up on MailArt...... :)I have a sketch to show you and i even had it scanned in and loaded onto a flashdrive at OfficeMax but when i got home it turned out not be a very good scan so gonna see whats up with that.......may just say the heck with it and take photo of it the best i can and show you.......Its too big to fit on my little scanner at home........teach me to work too big....Hugs! deb

Smile!

...........opened up my mailbox and ......smiled!! Isn't that just the prettiest blue/green color? This MailArt comes from Corrine over there at SparkleDaysStudio. I just love how she is so wonderfully abstract..........i try abstract and i just can't pull it off. My MailArt buddies keep me soo busy. And i only have 2!! How in the world do you have more?? MailArt has been such a great adventure while camped out in this apartment. I can turn out envelopes with only a few supplies. I cannot WAIT until i have my full arsenal of crafty goodness at my disposal again. Look at all the goodies Corrine put in her envelope! Thank you Corrine!! Hmmm....now what can i make out of them??...................Its been pretty uneventful around here lately. Just day to day stuff.........walking and bike riding........keeping the apartment picked up. ......so i haven't posted much because not much going on..........Looking into opening an Etsy shop but have to get my Paypal straightened out after the move.........its a problem apparently changing your address when you don't have a landline phone......we just have our cells.........so they have to send us something in the mail at our new address to verify we actually live there??? i don't know...anyway........so once that is all fixed up i'm going to open the shop with some cards in it at least........with my images..........i'm hoping i can have better prices there than by using Zazzle. So stay tuned. ....Hugs! deb

Poof!.........

............their gone.I had more pictures of the Antique Streetfaire we attended this past Sunday but i cannot find them ANYWHERE!! .......sigh.........but at least i have this one so you get a peek! So many people......so many wonderfully old things to look at, over 400 vendors...........and some things that made me feel old as i remember them from my childhood and now they are considered antique! LOL! This Streetfaire guaranteed everything was at least 20 years old or older........well........some vendors managed to sneak in a few things that were not that old mixed in with their old stuff but thats okay , i bought one of those not so old things :) .......The prices in my humble opinion were high........but then this is CA and i'am not a HUGE fan of antiques.........there are some things i like and would purchase but i just don't quite put the value on them that they do......I never realized it before but i found myself intrigued by the jewelry.....especially the brooches.......don't ask me why...i don't wear pins....but there were so many different ones ....arrrghhh i should have taken more photos.......sometimes i think my brain is still set on film being in my camera that i have to develop so when it comes to taking pictures i 'am conservative then afterwards its like Dummy you can just hit delete!
~
~Antiques......not really hubbys thing.........he's such a good sport.........give him some good food...had the most delicious sausage on a roll that we split and let him pet the dogs........everybody and their brother brought their dog to this thing and he's a happy camper.....lol........we walked and looked until i was tired....until there was so much to look at things started running together.........very seldom do we do an activity until i've had enough.....usually hubby's back starts to bother him or his knees and we have to call an early retreat but on THIS day I was the one who called UNCLE........lol.......I did walk away with a purchase or two but one is a gift that i shall not mention......yet.......I found a retired Swaroski crystal figurine in excellent condition! Its an owl.......the tag said $22.50 and we haggled down to $20 ....great hagglers aren't we?? lol......BUT i had a sneaky suspicion it was worth considerably more so when i got home i put Google to work................
~
~ My retired owl in excellent condition is worth about $40! Not bad huh........The guy said he got it from an estate sale of an 80 yr old woman who passed away. I have about 15 pieces of Swaroski crystal i've collected over the years........packed away........waiting for their new home.......Its been a couple years since i've added a piece so i was ssooo tickled to find this owl! I'm so sorry there hasn't been much artwork lately......i've been working on a mailart piece and i can't show it until it arrives at its destination........I almost have a sketch done to show you once i have it scanned in but its too large for my scanner so i have to take it to Office Max......Hugs! deb
