Alcatraz!

..............cost$28 a person.........hmmmm.....nope.......I'm not saying we will NEVER go see Alcatraz but for right now the view from here is just fine! So we saved $56 and let the ........... ........sea lions entertain us......i took waaay to many sea lion pictures.......ooops......I KNOW i could have stayed there for hours watching their antics...... ............i swear sometimes they were posing just for me..........so i let hubby decide when enough sea lion watching was enough...........there are just some things i don't seem to have an 'off switch'.......yes we all know about the broken chocolate and icecream switch but apparently i have a sea lion switch too and a hiking switch.......don't ask me while hiking when its time to turn around................. .........i always want to see whats over the next hill or around the next corner......so i always tell my hiking partners 'Just tell me when YOU want to turn around!' ........lol..........don't leave it up to my you'll be hiking forever..................... ...........these two guys kept trying to play 'King of Mountain'.......trying to push each other off...it was hilarious...........i came across some more San Francisco pictures i forgot to share with you.....these sea lions are at Pier 39. Stay tuned more SF coming.......Hugs! deb

Your Break..........

............from MailArt is over! I cannot wait another minute to show you this beautiful MailArt i received just the other day from Eileen the Artful Crafter. Isn't it amazing!!!! I honestly don't think i have an abstract bone in my body but Eileen does abstract beautifully doesn't she? Her blog is over there on my blogroll and if you pop over she even shows you how she got the black on there using a chopstick technique she developed herself! So clever! And i haven't even mentioned.................................
the wonderful things she put inside.........not only did she send me the instructions for making paper 'fortune cookies' but the circles to do it with. I haven't tried it yet but i'm gonna give it a go...........Thank you so much Eileen. It truly is beautiful! Your MailArt from me will be in the mail soon! Hugs! deb

Seriously???

............they should have asked the WIFE first don't you think? I'm talking about white shirts.....my husbands uniform for work is dark blue jeans or 'Dickies' and AND a white shirt. Never never put my husband in a white shirt.............he's a 'hands on' kinda guy.....you might EXPECT him to sit behind a desk in his office BUT ITS NOT GONNA HAPPEN! You should have asked THE WIFE. If one of his vehicles is not running he's gonna lift up the hood....stick his nose in there and see whats happening......its just his nature.....he has mechanics....doesn't matter......thats NOT who you hired. LOL! Poking a little fun there but seriously........how do you keep your white clothes white???I've never been very good at that. Give me a month or two and my whites start looking dingy.....no matter how hard i try. Whats your secret??? I'd love to know.......I have nightmares of my hubby standing next to the other bosses and he is obviously dingy.......such are the the nightmares of a house wife. :) I want him to sparkle and shine! These are pictures from San Francisco. Aren't they amazing?? Art everywhere in SF. And it pulls me in like a moth to flame. Hugs! deb

Good Thing..........

.............my husband is not a doctor.......he has trouble discerning between life and death....lol....Hubby knows the way i decorate the house that i love to bring the outside in. He's always bringing me bits and baubles he thinks i would like......a feather.....a curious rock you name it........well this time he brought me an 'empty' snail shell because he knows i collect them. He brought it home from work and proudly handed it to me at the front door. After a few oooh's and aah's i set it on my craft space planning to wash it out later and promptly forgot about it. The next morning i walk by the table on my way to COFFEE and this is what i see! I had a good chuckle. Apparently he was NOT dead so i took him outside and placed him the bushes. I LOVE snail shells , they are each so unique but i do not have the heart to kill the owner just to get the shell........i can just imagine what kind of bad karma THAT would be and believe in karma or not who would WANT to invite bad karma?? not me!
~
~I thought briefly of painting his shell........but that would be so unfair to him.....the bright colors may make him more visible to birds and worse yet the paint could somehow poison him by leaching thru his shell .........so i just let him go ...the way nature intended.Hugs! deb

Work In Progress (WIP)

I showed you this sketch a little while ago and i've been working on it........i think the circles and such on the tree are new since i last showed it to you AND the mushrooms which i now wish i had made a little smaller.......shoot maybe even the doorway is new........what you may have trouble seeing is the pathway leading to the doorway and the tree beyond the doorway(they are still in pencil)......but its coming along..........still an awful lot of empty space i need to fill........gonna try to continue the circles down the path i think and add a few more trees........i almost wish the dream catcher wasn't there as i would fill that area out with trees disappearing in the distance.......I have an itch to start coloring it in ..........and that keeps me pressing forward with the sketching because i KNOW i have to finish that first .......get a black and white scanned copy THEN color! Knowing that gives me the push i need to finish. I'm a terrible procrastinator with art and it runs off into other areas of my life......not a trait i'm proud of and one i try to improve on all the time.
~
~I hope you enjoy seeing the WIP.........I have a few stories to tell this week so you'll be hearing from me! Hugs! deb

I Promise.............

.........for those of you who are not fans of MailArt this is the last MailArt post for a little while! And even before we get to the MailArt i have a Houseboat to show you! This little houseboat was so cute i practically SQUEALED! with delight and I . don't. squeal! But it WAS! I pleaded with my 'driver' to pull over.......i hopped out and snapped a photo. The tide must have been out because all the houseboats (this one the cutest by far!) were sitting in mud.......I guess i always had this romantic notion of a houseboat........but the whole tide out/ mud , fishy smelling thing??? I don't think so........I guess i could always go shopping everyday while the tide was out and come back home when the water came back???? Okay............you know how i said before i don't know how one has more than a couple MailArt buddies as mine keep me quite busy. :) And gladly so.........but i found myself with a breather between MailArt projects and i decided to surprise a friend back in Texas. Isn't this purple gorgeous??? I achieved it with acrylic paint in purple and white........thinned with a little water and used a paint brush on a manila folder cut down to size. I started with full strength purple ans slowly added white to achieve i hope a little depth...... ........the other side i decided on yellow and red and incorporated them to get some orange......Do you recognize where the MickeyMice came from????? They are paint samples from HomeDepo......My friend is a HUGE fan of Disney and when i saw them at the store i KNEW i had to make a card or something for her out of them........As i started to add them to the painted envelope it crossed my mind......'Wouldn't it look COOL if i cut out the ears across the top?!'So gave it a go and it worked! I thought i would have trouble matching up the front and the back but i cut them both at the same time and no problem! I made sure to use the lighter colored Mickeys to put the address and return address on and then it hit me that i needed to include Minnie! You see i never know what i'm gonna get. I try not to plan these things and just let them evolve........Minnie as you can see needed a little bit of attitude! This Minnie on the purple side came from an abstract piece from a MailArt buddy....I just traced a Mickey on top of it cut it out gave her a bow and Presto! Minnie with attitude! On this side i found some more abstract and added a bow and yet ANOTHER side of Minnie! LOL! The Go girl! stickers came from another MailArt buddy! I think my Texas friend enjoyed her SURPRISE in the mail!

Movie Review Time.............

Its been awhile since i've done a movie review. Mostly because we had not been to a movie since coming to California but here lately thats been rectified. .....We were worried about the prices and such but come to find out as long as we go to a matinee showing the prices are not much different than TX. So now we have been to 4! Are you ready???
Snow White and the Huntsman!...........I personally LOVED this movie........Everyone i went with just like it...........oh well guess i'm showing my geekiness..........is that a word? I think Kristen Stewart did a great job as Snow White........and the huntsman was played well..........if anything i felt disappointed with Charlize Theron her performance felt forced and over the top. But this is a great little fantasy movie with awesome special effects. I was very happy with it as a whole.
~
~Prometheus............ I was so disappointed with this movie.........I so looked forward to it......It was dull and boring..........and this was one movie that the special effects could not carry it. Rent it i guess sure.....I mean Ridley Scott the man knows how to make a SciFi movie........but i think this one fell flat........
~
~Avengers.............we had seen the previews to this movie.........but i don't know maybe we had just had enough of Superhero movies or something but we were not keen on going to the movies to see it.........THEN our son heard we had not seen it and he about hit the roof......This is the BEST movie of the year and you haven't seen it??!! You gotta go!!! So we did and it did not
disappoint . It was fast and exciting and totally worth the money spent. So if your a fan at all of the Iron Man movies and Thor and Captain America and The Hulk.........which they have a new guy playing the Hulk and he's good........the rest are the original actors.........Worth you time!!
~
~And last but not least.......BRAVE........i have wanted to see this movie since the first previews and i was not disappointed. Just a lovely movie. And there is a cartoon short before the movie starts about the moon and stars and its absolutely adorable.......Definitely worth your time and money..............so there! Back in the saddle again with the movies..........Whew! I've missed them!
~
~I notice that Blogger still keeps announcing they are going to the upgraded interface.....i thought that was supposed to have happened already...........Well anyway i've made the decision to stop blogging once they do that...........i think it may be the only way to break my internet habit. LOL! Theres way to much life out there i'm not living..........And i really have no interest in learning a new interface.......and really i don't know i've been doing this for a couple years now and i have less than 50 followers........I must not be doing something right....... :) Keeping up a blog has lost its rosy glow for me............it may be time to move on........I do still plan on visiting my favorite blogs over coffee just not keep one of my own......But until Blogger upgrades i'll still be here! Hugs! deb

MailArt Love!

This blog has been seriously lacking in ART lately! But you know you just can't share Tahoe in one posting! .......Before we get elbow deep in paint i wanted to thank everyone for your heartfelt wishes. Everyday is a little brighter as we open ourselves to the knowledge that we still carry her in our hearts and that she will always be with us. I also wanted to apologize for the 'Word Verification' i have had to add. I've started receiving waaaay too much spam. Apparently i'am on someones radar. Because i used to get only one or two a month but came home to over 100 when i got back from TX. Thats a little much.........i'm hoping it will calm down and i will take the Word Verification off after awhile.....i know what a pain it is. For those of you who still comment i cherish your comments even more!
~
~I've been in the recycling kick with my MailArt envelopes of late. I started out using manila folders because they are so easy to paint on but it seems so wasteful to use a brand new folder for that purpose.......This little 'masterpiece' you see here was painted on the cardboard cover of a DVD movie we bought. I opened it up......turned it inside out and PRESTO! an envelope! See where the wine bottle is coming out?? That was the hole for the bar code on the movie. The wine bottle i cut off a Trader Joe's paper bag and painted it the color i wanted. The rest i doodled and painted with acrylic and flicked paint off a toothbrush and just had fun...... This is the back........i was going for a Livermore theme..........the front for the vineyards and the back for the rolling hills........The hills have so many different textures on them. Hubby and i talk about it alot.......not sure what causes it but there are lines and scribbles in the earth all over the hills......At first we thought it was the way the cows walk on the hills but it just seems to 'perfect' for that.......the lines so evenly spaced ......so i don't know.......we thought maybe earthquakes shifted the dirt.........even though we haven't felt any shaking going on.......lol........ Then because everything looked TOO perfect i decided to melt the sun........this envelope was going to a friend that loves abstract so i thought if any one could appreciate that sun she could. LOL! I have more ideas for drawing the hills of Livermore so don't be surprised when you see them again. And the hills wouldn't be complete without windmills! I've seen many places where these windmills are just such eyesores.......necessary but ugly..........for some reason they really seem to fit in here. I'm sure someone who knew these hills before the windmills may not agree.......Thanks for stopping by! Stay tuned for more MailArt! Hugs! deb

Legend of the Purple Toe........

I cannot grieve with others.................i just cannot........i think i am somehow broken in that way......but i can hug and hold and try to comfort and listen and just ........be there........and you hope somehow that that is enough..........that the person behind the tears and sadness is not judging you for your lack of emotion..........that they can somehow see it in your eyes that your grieve too.............. It is in the quiet moments that my grief overwhelms.......standing in the shower with the warm water pounding my shoulders that my tears mingle with the water, hopes that the sound of the water drowns out my sobs...............It is in the night when the whole world sleeps and the dark embraces me that the tears flow and i remember every kindness, every hug, every attempt to know me, understand me and love me .....which is not the easiest thing to do.....Please forgive that i'am not more forthcoming on our loss but i feel the family would appreciate that. Amazingly the world continues to spin....and the sun will come up tomorrow.......and somehow life will go on........but there will always be that empty place in our hearts...........Thank you so much for all your well wishes and condolences.....
~
~Above are pictures of Lily of the Nile flowers or they are also called Agapanthus......they are blooming everywhere around here now......they are so beautiful........oh.......the purple toe????Well i didn't take a picture of my purple toe so i gave you purple flowers.........lol......but on one of those long ,sad nights i stumbled my way to the bathroom and stubbed my toe on one of our suitcases. OMG! Everyone was sleeping......i didn't want to wake anyone up!......i must have silently screamed for 5 minutes........omgosh that hurt! The next day i had a purple toe.....I have never stubbed my toe that hard in my life! I thought i broke it! But the purple is fading away and the pain has not lingered unlike the pain in my heart....so i think all is well..........Have you ever stubbed your toe that hard? Hugs! deb
