Long Weekend Project...............

Looks like my Project Supervisor is sleeping on the job! :) Jinx kept me company while i worked out in the garage over the weekend. It gets pretty warm out there without air condition  but Jinx just seems to drink up that warmth...

Still remember that bookcase hubby built? Well .....it became a stalled project that was taking up major room in hubby's garage....so that was my vow for the weekend...just bite the bullet and GetRDone! We initially tried to stain it......but you know how sometimes your dreams overload your hummingbird ability?....well try as we might we just didn't like how it looked......Its more difficult than you think to pick out just the right stain color.....anyway so ditch that idea.......so we painted it.....and ditto with the paint color....theres so many to choose from.....uughh......but i do like what we ended up with......But then i thought....it just looks so plain....those leaves just get lost in the paint.....thats when i broke the news to him that i was gonna paint each one of the leaves copper.........He said..".yeah...see ya next year..."

He of little faith.........I got them all painted......then i wanted the little vines to stand out more so i used Antiquing Medium.

Just dab it all on ...make sure it gets in all the little cracks and crevices and wipe it off being careful not to wipe it out of the indentations.... At first i thought i had a problem and i was preparing myself to have to paint all those leaves again because the Antiquing Medium really dulled them. But they really brightened up when i applied the sealer........panic aborted! whew!  So now! Drumroll please....................

Ta da!!!!!!!!! I think it turned out wonderful!!! Hubby points out this crooked shelf and that wonky edge but i tell him its perfect! I cherish all the imperfections. If i wanted it flawless i would have bought one at the store......This one was made by the man i love. With his own two hands....hands that do not belong to a master carpenter but someone who is trying to figure it out as he goes along.  My man who dared to dream big (9ft tall) and make his sketch come to life........Just two more units to go.....

And just for good measure.....its Jinxy approved!

I hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th! We were HOT here 108 so just alot of hibernating going on.... But alot of other people were having a blast.....literally....it sounded like WWIII around here.....airborne fireworks are illegal in California (because of fire danger)but i think someone forgot to tell the public.....next year hubs and i are gonna sit on our chairs on the front porch with a cool drink and watch the show.....As long as they don't burn my house down were good! Hugs! deb

I agree iwth Lori - love the trim and you did a great job to showcase it.

We are having yet another thunderstorm as I write this. Odd weather here in Ontario - hot and humid but not in the 100's yet. Hope your A/C keeps working!!!

You guys did have that heat wave, we are a cool 70 ish today, I am loving it because we have been 100% humid and in the 90's yucko.....Nice bookcase, now fill it up. What is it about critters who suck up the sun. The dogs do it too and then pant away. xox

I saw your comment on Miss V's Fanciful Twist blog about the wonderful shelf your hubby made for you. So glad you shared with us all.

I need complete WALLS of book shelves. Digital and audio books have their place but no one will ever get all of my treasured books.
