Colorful Giveaway!!!!!

Well let me tell you blogger is messing with me BIG time trying to make this post....Just look how it loaded these pictures! And i'm trying to figure out how to type something in this mess too...........sigh... ANYWAY this post is about a Giveaway! I've been missing in action but i've been busy!! I wanted to have a nice selection for you to chose from.  If you'd like one of these cards leave me a comment! And in that comment tell me what color you'd prefer from the ones shown here....starting at the top we'll call them orange, then green, purple, yellow, and finally pink...Now i know the pink one is not finished but it will be in time......

All of them except the pink one at the bottom has been done with colored pencil and i have to say i love the shading versatility the pencils give me..........

But i think the pink one done in marker definitely 'POPS'!
So here's the 'fine print' . I'm gonna let this Giveaway run longer than i ususally do....lets say Friday , June 7th...which happens to be my 24th Wedding Anniversary! You have until then to leave a comment......**Make sure your a follower....Lord knows i don't have many of those! :) and ** Make sure i have a way to get a hold of you!  Thank you to all my followers. I love that you come visit me and say such nice things about my artwork.  Your the BEST and i appreciate your kindness and the way you raise my spirits. You give me HOPE that i might find my way on my artistic journey .......Hugs! deb

Feathers............

I have been seeing feathers everywhere i look on the internet. Etsy and artist web pages...just feathers floating around everywhere!

And i think the are so lovely and unique...no two the same. Such wonderful imaginations people have.......

I wanted to try my hand at drawing my own...you know...see if i could do it and have it actually LOOK like a feather...I decided to combine my attempt with figuring out something to do with these brown , funny shaped card blanks i scored for 50cents (pkg of 8) at a craft store that have been collecting dust for years....

Thats why the feather is curved so much. Now i do not have alot of experience making cards. I had trouble getting the paper to stick using a glue stick so i ended up using some matte decoupage medium, which worked beautifully.  Not all the edges are perfect...and while that bothers me a little i remind myself ...this is not about achieving perfection......

You know i'm just not a fan of using type written letters on artwork. I see it alot along with book pages and the like used in artwork and while its ...okay...i'm just not crazy about it....I'd rather see something hand lettered........Even if the lettering is again...not perfect....

Now my writing is not the best but i still think it lends something to the card rather than take away from it.....Don't you agree?

If I Didn't Know Better........

.............I would swear this cat LOVES getting a bath.......look how nicely he waits for the tub to fill up........i even had time to go get my camera and he still sat there.......but see he only THINKS he loves getting a bath......what he LOVES is being the center of attention until............

.......he doesn't......here he is having some seriously second thoughts about a bath........LOL!  Honestly he does remarkably well...no scratching or clawing or mad escapes ...he just stands there and lets me do whatever i need to. Ofcourse i go out of my way to make it a pleasant experience.....I be sure to talk to him and no big splashes...turn the water off and don't get any in his face.....

.......and here he is all nice and clean and about 5 pounds of cat hair lighter....... He's so fluffy now! Isn't he a good boy?? Actually if you look closely you can see his mind working on a way to get me back.....i just know it......

A Recipe for my Guinea Pigs....

.........don't forget to put your name in the hat for a painted bookmark by leaving a comment on this post!

Now, lets talk cookies! I'm no chef or baker and if truth be told i don't even LIKE to cook..... I cook...well because who can afford to eat out every night? :)  AND i cooked more when i had children in the house.......now that its just hubby and i well lets say my cooking to eating out ratio has fallen to a new low......lol....... but...BUT there is one thing that has kept me going all these years in the kitchen......... I LOVE to try out new recipes and if they don't work out the first time i love experimenting and tweaking them to fit our taste buds.  This has resulted in a HUGE stack of recipes, some tried and true and others wait to be discovered. It..........keeps things interesting........lol .  My family has been my guinea pigs all these years. They are fearless! :) And there have been some doozies.

Some of the recipes are torn from magazines......some are copied from borrowed cookbooks........or cookbooks on loan from the library and now that we are settled in our new home i've been snagging one or two when i plan a weeks worth of meals.  The above picture is Cracker Barrel Raisin Cookie.........I've had this recipe so long i have no idea if we are talking about the Cracker Barrel Restaurant or not...  This recipe had some 'odd for me' ingredients and directions. I'm sure thats why i copied it down in the first place. Ingredients like sour cream.....in a cookie???hmm.... and soak the raisins in boiling water for 10 minutes and toss with a little lemon juice.......hmmm...do you bake a lot is this normal??Why the lemon juice? Anyway i made them last night and added one little tweak called chocolate chips and they were YUMMY! They don't spread out and they are cakey in texture. Not too sweet....in fact if you don't add the chocolate chips i'd consider adding more sugar.........Here's the recipe if you want to give it a go.......

                                    Cracker Barrel Raisin Cookie

Boiling water                                  3cups Raisins
Soak the raisins in the boiling water for 10 minutes
Drain in strainer and spread out on paper towels
to dry while you prepare the rest....................

Cream together............
2 sticks of butter or margarine,      1 1/2 tsp vanilla,
3/4c sugar ,  3/4c brown sugar,  1 egg,  2/3 c sour cream.

In a separate bowl combine........
4c flour,           1 tsp baking soda,        1 tsp salt,
1/2 tsp nutmeg

Slowly combine the wet and dry ingredients then fold in a bag of milk chocolate chips ............squeeze a little lemon on the raisins and toss to coat then fold into the cookie dough.....I have no idea why the lemon juice , nor did hubby have a clue if you do please tell.....there was no measurement for the amount of lemon juice....that could be a mistake on my part while copying the recipe ...not sure....

Chill dough in frig for an hour ..........roll into tsp size balls and flatten a little with your fingers or a fork. 375 degrees for 13 minutes....Very , very good cookie..... Around here we rate things good.......Very good........Excellent.......or........Eh...okay....Edible....and NEVER MAKE THAT AGAIN!

I'll share more as i experiment. Let me know if you give these a try! Hugs! deb

Promise and a Giveaway............

.....I promise this is the last MailArt post for a while ! But i've been practicing painting and i practice on postcards. And i have this one finished.....On this one i worked out how to do my rock wall. Remember i'm working on that canvas and i had to figure out how to paint all those little 'pebbles' without having to do a gazillion little dots. AND i needed to work on how to paint wood ...because remember i had to paint that round hobbit door on canvas....

I think the  rock wall came out awesome! All i did was swirl different shades of gray. Let it dry thoroughly and i mean thoroughly so it doesn't gum up your pen . Then i used a PittPen to draw all my little circles. My hope is that it will work out the same on canvas but i'am worried about the texture of the canvas.....so we'll see.........

...........And now we come to the Giveaway portion of this post...And let me apologize ahead of time for the poor quality of these photos...sigh......The background is metallic blue and thats just a recipe for bad photos...... I made a book mark on cereal box and again practicing my rock wall and a tree......

.........The hand writing is not great but i love this quote by Emily Dickinson. If your interested in the bookmark please leave a comment and make sure you are a follower and Friday May17 i'll pull a name from the hat. Make sure i have a way to get a hold of you.  I hope you are enjoying Mother's Day! Hugs! deb

MailArt LOVE!!!!

Post card Swap!!  I usually don't enter Swaps.....I don't like the pressure of time constraints...even when they are generous....but i entered one thru June's blog 'A Creative Dreamer' . Above is the painting i made on a piece of cereal box. The gold and blue is painted on and the moon is a piece of a wallpaper sample i snagged a few years a go. The stars are sequins and i have some real doubts they will survive the trip thu the mail...i know this because one of them fell off in the car on the way to the postoffice......sigh.......This postcard was sent to Laurie...

.........and just the other day i opened my mail box to this lovely piece of art from Cherie! Isn't it amazing??! If you follow the link to her blog (i hope it works) you can see the step by step how this girl came to 'life'! Thank you so much Cherie! And thank YOU June for hosting!!! And for those of you who have never tried MailArt...Grab a piece of cereal box  , put some paint on it or collage on it or a mixture of both and make sure the address is clearly visable and send a little piece of art thru the mail! You can do it!!You'll brighten someone's day. Send me one! And i'll send you one right back!!!Hugs! deb
