A Birthday Sneak Peek........

Hubs picked me out a birthday card....um...yeah....LOL! So cute!
I love frogs!

And more beautiful Gladiolas to be had...red and white this time and a few gorgeous Sunflowers ....A trip to the Garden Center to purchase some plants i've decided i want in my garden....namely Lily of the Nile (Agapanthus) ...they grow so beautifully around here and a Tropical Hibiscus.......I'm hesitant about that one but i've seen a few winter over here so i'm gonna give it a go...maybe with some mulch........I'll take some pics when i get them in the ground...

And........here's your sneak peek! I know i know i'm suppose to be painting.....but we all know i'm the Queen of Procrastination....All these ideas rattling around in this ol' head of mine..sometimes i just gotta get them out.....and down on paper......these little imps have been such fun to draw....

.....There's another one too but she doesn't have a tail yet so we'll wait on that one..... :) ....just circles and circles and little imp faces...sketching and erasing and sketching some more while the TV drones on....I might cast a glance its way now and then but really i'm down below with the mermaids.....hmmm... i think they have something in their possession that they just might share if you ask....what could it be?
You'll have to come back and see when i figure out how to draw it....ahhh... love my eraser... :)  I even have another idea for another picture........ideas popping up everywhere! What was my birthday wish??? Another year full of arts and crafts......and love and health and happiness....to begin and end each day with a smile on my face......ok......thats more than one wish but its my BIRTHDAY! Hugs! deb

Movie Reviews.............!!

..........I thought i'd show you how the canvas is going while i tell you about some movies.....But first let me tell you not to listen to any movie reviews....... lol!...seriously form your own opinions... I had this driven home for me when last week i watched a movie review for the new Superman movie Man of Steel........ I think the show was called  'See it, Rent it, Skip it' or something like that and recommended that you skip the Superman movie.... i wonder how many people listened to them......? You really have to take all these reviews with a grain of salt....including mine..... :)

'Man of Steel'........LOVED it! Don't miss it! Totally worth your movie dollars.......I think its the best Superman movie yet and i'am a huge fan of Christopher Reeves as Superman......I think Chrisopher Reeves was born to play Superman..... But this movie, well it was just the whole enchilada ......The guy who played Superman is  relatively unknown to me...Henry something i think but BUT and i think this was key his supporting actors were Kevin Costner and Russel Crowe. So often big name actors do not want to play supporting roles, they want to be the stars of their own movies and i think we lose alot of talent that way. Those supporting roles are so important....... Okay enough GO...See it!!I don't think you'll be sorry....

'Now you See Me.....'  Hubs and i thoroughly enjoyed this movie. The best way to describe it is its just FUN.  Lighthearted....with some fabulous young actors and it doesn't hurt that Morgan Freeman gives the movie some weight in again a supporting role.... If your looking for a movie to just lift your spirits and put a smile on your face this is it!

Iron Man 3..........We enjoyed this movie too. And honestly we both agree it was better than Iron Man 2.... So nice to see Gwyneth Paltrow's character get into the action in this movie. Ofcourse i think Robert Downey Jr and Gwyneth Paltrow have wonderful chemistry in the movie and really all the Iron Man movies...

'After Earth'..........I know.......I know you've heard the reviews...you've even heard Will Smith put down his own movie....but honestly......In both our opinions hubby and i didn't think this movie was that bad......not as bad as the reviews..... Special Effects were Awesome! and since that cannot totally carry a movie let me tell you Will Smith's son Jayden was Great! The Achilles heel of this movie was Will Smith and how he either chose to play his character or how he was told to play his character.....His character was battle worn, mentally battle scarred and not supposed to have any emotion.......well let me tell you if you look at it that way Will Smith pulled it off.....I mean totally blank.....have you ever seen Will Smith's face not animated in some way?? He was just a real drag on this movie......To have him show absolutely no trace of emotion was a mistake in my opinion......even if it was just when no other character could see him, something other than a blank stare should have crossed his face.....anyway.....take that into consideration  Will Smith really didn't have a big part in this movie....more about his son and his son did an admirable job so at least if you like this kind of movie its worth a rental.....

Now lets get to the two movies we did not see on the big screen but purchased the DVD's.......

Warm Bodies...........kind of a lukewarm review too.....it was okay...A very different take on Zombies and that in itself was refreshing.......Zombies coming back to normal.......A romantic comedy with a Zombie twist.........lol.......i didn't fall in love with it but it was cute........

and now my only BAD review........

'Oz'............Please......please.........just skip it......I have no idea where to start to tell you how bad this movie was.........I was ready to turn it off halfway thru but hubby wanted to finish it.....Bad, bad acting......and i like some of the actors.....but i would not put this one in their resume........If you have a different take on any of these movies i'd love to hear it........

PS........Canvas coming along huh?!!! Hugs! deb
PSPS....if you need a smile catch an episode of 'Americas
Got Talent'....watched it last night with hubby...had us grinning ear to ear cheering everyone on........

Communication...........

........is so important in a marriage.......unfortunately even after 24 years its not something hubby and i do well........Sometimes we still expect each other to be able to read the other's mind....... Above is the picture i initially wanted to capture....A 'closeup' of my new walk lights with their fabulous crackle and my white alyssum spilling out of the pot and my Sugar Daddy petunias blooming their heads off.......and a little bit of the orange daylily that was nearby.

And in between trying to get just the right angle....deciding whether to flash or not to flash...(as it was early evening) i did a lot of sighing and complaining.....hubby telling me to lie on the ground.....i did not want to lie on the ground....durn it......lol........until he finally took matters in to his own hands.....laid on the ground and took this shot below......

He took about 5 pictures and handed the camera back to me .  As i reviewed his shots i realized they were all very different from mine...In all that huffing and puffing i never once communicated with him that i was looking for a tight shot.....i just somehow expected him to KNOW what i wanted and what i was looking for...It just goes to show you never really stop learning about the nuances of your relationship....never stop learning new and hopefully better ways to communicate......Apparently i still have to drill in my head...'The man cannot read my mind!!!' LOL!  But in the end i have a bug's eye view of my front walk to show you with the solar walk lights and beautiful orange day lilies...... lovely shot isn't it?  This is one of the reasons we both take our cameras on our adventures......i love to see what we come up with , with our different perspectives......Hope you had a fabulous Father's Day weekend.......ours was very relaxed.......the kids remembered to call their DAD......and thats really what its all about isn't it?  To be remembered.........Hugs! deb

Not Exactly..............

.......a hat but perhaps an Abalone Shell will do??  I found this gorgeous shell at one of the flea markets we have visited lately. I wanted one for my sage smudging.  I had a ceramic dish , you can see it there in the lower right corner but it wasn't as natural as i would have liked..........I kept finding the Abalone shells but they wanted like $20 for it and i just couldn't do it....Then i came across this one for $6 ! Yeah baby! Sold! One of these days were gonna talk about that turkey feather you see there in front.......

so.......seven......seven little strips of paper in an Abalone Shell........ Thank you to everybody who participated...... and here i was worried i was only running the GiveAway for  few days......

So i lifted the shell above my head.....swirled the slips around with my fingers and pulled out a name......

StarDust!!!! You win!!! If you'll get your snail mail addy to me I'll get this in the mail to you next week!  Just email me at nuleaf at comcast dot net....Congratulations!!

*****And here is the rest of the story...........Everyone might be a little more amazed at StarDust's win if you knew the rest of the story............ I put all the names in the shell took my pictures....swirled them around and pulled a name StarDust! Sat down ...loaded my pictures and started typing and looking more closely at the pictures......no matter how hard i tried i could only make out 6 slips of paper in the pictures and i KNOW there was seven........maybe there was just one tucked under another one...and i almost made myself believe it but i decided to investigate further and  there lying on the carpet was a rogue slip of paper......uuugh....so....i did it all again.....swirled them around and pulled out a name and STARDUST!!! So really StarDust you won twice! I think you were MEANT to have this little Koi!  And everybody else? Don't worry i'll always be giving more stuff away! Hugs! deb

What a Deal.........

..........I need a circle punch ...badly....lol . Its not so easy cutting a perfect circle.....anyway i printed and cut out some pictures of my 'Koi'. I backed it with a circle of green just to give it a little more stability and a space to sign it and  write..."Just Breathe...." on the back and I've been leaving them all over town...lol....I've found the best place to leave one is while paying the bill at a restaurant...you know when you pay at your table and you sign the credit card slip then leave ....well i just leave a little something with the slip....Hubby just smiles and shakes his head...maybe a little eye roll but i don't know, would finding this make you smile? I have yet to catch someone's face when they find it......

...........and here's the Deal........I bought these two Blue Plumbagos off the clearance rack at the Home Improvement Store for half price!  They were a little shabby but mostly they had just stopped blooming........ I stuck them in my front flower bed and Wow!

........they have certainly taken off!   Just full of buds and blooms!  Now i want a couple more.....  Just for your info...they are very drought tolerant...like the sun but if you can protect them from the hottest afternoon sun they will love you for it..... Oh! And before i forget if you leave a comment i will put your name in the hat for yet ANOTHER drawing for one of those circle Koi pictures....I know alot of Giveaways lately.... but there will be dry spells where maybe i'm not creating much SO get your name in the hat while you can! Will let this Giveaway run until Friday, June 14th!  Hugs! deb

My Man............

...........is a man of few words.............

but...........EXCELLENT taste in flowers......

And now hubby and i begin our 25th year together...a quarter of a century!.......I have been with him for over half my life......and i couldn't imagine it any other way........I'am so blessed to be able to experience this kind of love in my life..........Hugs! deb

A Winner and a Reveal.........

Charlo.....Violet....Carol and Judy...I put all your names in the hat...swished them around and pulled one out! And the winner is................................JUDY!!!! Judy you must have 'first timer's LUCK'!!! Just email your snail mail address to nuleaf at comcast dot net........Congrats!!! Thanks so much to everybody for playing along!
****  Now here we go! I put paint on canvas!  Remember a little while ago i said i wanted to see if i could translate one of my doodles done with colored pencil onto canvas using acrylic paint...Colored pencil on the left here and the canvas on the right....

I just picked a spot and started........I decided to start with the door......

Then i ran into a problem........a 'Deb' problem........one that has held me hostage many times........I fell in love with the door i painted......i was afraid to touch the canvas again because i might screw it up......and then what.....? I'd have this perfect door in the middle of a totally screwed up canvas.......So i sat and stewed about it for a while.....gave myself pep talks.......procrastinated some more...You can see in the picture above my next step was to paint that ropey looking thing around the door.....I finally took the plunge yesterday and put a base coat down for the ropey thing. Now i have to add the details to it...the shading etc...... I tried to get a better picture of the door for you but my camera wasn't having it.....to me it truly came out looking just like a wood door.....

***I hope as time goes on i will become more confident with my painting......i hope so because it can not continue this way or it will take me years to complete one painting.......and i have so many paintings in mind already.... Even thought i've really just started this painting i already see where i will do some things differently on the next one........This canvas is suppose to be pre-primed ...but i think next time i will put gesso on it to smooth it out.... I think gesso will smooth out all the little bumps right?......I will  be using a Pitt pen to outline some things and i'm worried about the texture of the canvas messing with that....we'll just have to see.........Also i'm not liking the 'give' of the canvas...i like a hard surface......so maybe canvas is not the substrate for me.....maybe wood?? i don't know...i have a couple canvases ....so i'll use them up then maybe look for something else......Thanks so much for stopping by!

**Hubby wished me a  Happy Anniversary at 4am this morning when he got up for work......I managed to mumble it back to him with a hug and kiss before i rolled back over and snored some more.....lol......We're not planning anything big this year hoping that Hawaii will be in the cards for next year......California has been tough on us financially.....seems like if its not one thing its another ......Hubby gets more pay here than TX but it costs more to live here too!  Hugs! deb
