I've been doodling.........

...........Is that surprising??  :)  Hubs just kind of shook his head at this one........thats my hand..........then i made him put his hand on the sketch pad and i doodle his too.....This one has a fish tail...can you see it? And on the fingers you'll find a crescent moon up there by the spiral fingertips and those are stars falling from the crescent moon. A few stars in the eye......the spirals around the tail i think are water and then a basket weave on the thumb....maybe as a voodoo charm because i'm scared to paint the basket weave on that canvas.....remember that canvas? Well its getting a layer of dust on it.......

What did i put on hubby's hand? Well i won't tell you yet but i will tell you i based it on a reoccurring dream he has had for as long as i've known him......OOooooOOOooo... LOL! Hugs! deb

PostCard Swap!!!!!!

I signed up for another round of PostCard Swapping over at June's blog, A Creative Dreamer .  This is the second swap and i have to say i've really enjoyed being a part of it.  It doesn't feel rushed... i don't feel stressed to get my postcard made in time....  and that's either because I'm on the ball and get my project done or June give's us plenty of time to get our act together... Knowing me i tend to think its the latter...lol!

I just LOVE this color purple.......I had to show you the name of it. I wish the computer screen could do it justice. It almost seems to glow with its pink undertones....

I started with a piece of cereal box. I covered it with mod podge and after it dried i put a layer of gesso over it.  Remember those birds i made ? Well i had all those scrapbook papers with the bird cut out of it leftover so i thought i would try to do something cute with it....So after lining everything up and putting the purple where the purple needed to go...........

I laid the scrap book paper on top and glued it down. Viola!! A birdie! I had some cute little music note punches. Then i just worked on getting the bird painted and shaded the way i wanted. I love his little rosey colored tummy........

Then i wanted to pull some of the light purple up into the dark so i decided on swirls and dots. And i put highlights on his beak and eye.

Then i thought i'd try my hand at antiquing the edges.....I'm not sure if that was entirely successful but there you go!The poem on his tummy is one of my favorites. I had a little trouble fitting it all in there....I could have planned that out better..... Over all i like it! And soon it will be winging its way thru the mail. This postcard is rather large but then the bird cutouts were rather large and i so wanted to use them....Hugs! deb

Ghost Kitty..........?

But first let me introduce you to 'Yogurt Face Kitty'.......aka Jinx! LOL! This silly cat LOVES yogurt. He sits patiently waiting for me to finish my yogurt.....we are both partial to Chobani.....then he will stick his whole face in the container to lick it out and spend an hour afterwards cleaning his face and paws but inevitably he ends up with Yogurt Face (see the ring?)......lol ! BUT what i really wanna tell you about is Ghost Kitty.......

I hesitate to bring this up........and i wholeheartedly understand if you are skeptical.....shoot i'm skeptical but let me tell you my story......

We have two and a half baths.....crazy.....its still weird to have more than one bathroom....but i digress......maybe i'm stalling......but okay.....When i'am sitting on the toilet ( TMI i know..sorry) in the downstairs bathroom and only this bathroom.....i have felt something brush up against my legs......like you know ...a cat......i reach down to pet Jinx and ........no cat......This has happened maybe three or four times since moving in the house last Oct...so not too often but often enough for me to take notice.....

I keep this information to myself......I just didn't want to see the eye rolls.....lol........but now here's the really spooky part......One night not too long ago Alvin and i are lying in bed , just talking before falling asleep when this brave man mentions to me that something brushed his leg while in the downstairs bathroom and there was nothing there........!!!! OMG! So then i related my story and just wow! We have a ghost kitty!  How can we have a ghost in a new house???

I've since mentioned this to a few other people and someone suggested maybe some poor hapless kitty got poured into the foundation or something.........i sure hope not........ Anyway its been a month or two since hubby and i talked about this and since we talked i have not felt anything brush my leg in the bathroom. Maybe talking about it desensitized us to it or something.......?

But one thing i have not told hubby is that sometimes in the morning after he's left for work and i'm still lying in bed with my eyes closed i hear footsteps on carpet coming from the bedroom door around the foot of the bed to his side and i wait for Jinx to jump up and wish me good morning......after a few minutes and he doesn't jump up i lean over to the side of the bed and no Jinx....huh....I sit up in bed looking for him and here he comes waltzing in the doorway from the hallway.....whatever was walking across my carpet was not Jinx..........Is that a just a little creepy or what?Hugs! Deb

PS...I hope this posts.....Blogger has been giving me fits of late......

Let there be color.........!

Now here is some big swatches of colored rock. I can definitely get a better feel for what color rock i like best.....Although everyone else i talked to seemed partial to the either the brown or grey. It was the squiggly green ones like the one above that kept calling out to me......

Then! I saw a big swath of the brown rocks and i could image the blue of the water against them and i'm thinking when i get around to attempting to put this on canvas i am going to go with the brown rocks.........

The grey is still my least favorite. Granted it does make the colors pop but it just doesn't do it for it....too drab maybe.....

And now i begin coloring the blue water.......whew....let me tell you thats an awful lot of blue....Here it has a very thin layer of blue...going darker around the edges down to a turquoise in the middle....cross your fingers i don't get some weird streaking going on.....that happens sometimes when i have a large expanse to cover....

Does having a larger portion of the colored rock change your opinion about what color rock you like best like it did me?.....or maybe now that you see it against a little bit of the blue?Hugs! deb

DayTripping to San Francisco!

I've heard so much about Scrap in San Francisco. A place
artist can go to get supplies on the cheap.  Weekend before last i finally got to go check it out in person!  Wow! So much stuff crammed in that building ! Its in the warehouse district and a little hard to find but apparently its not a secret as a lot of people were in there shopping! And honestly i think its for more people than just artists...In the spirit of Recycling, you will find anything and everything you could possibly imagine having a second life. A quick list.......stained glass, ceramic tile, greeting cards without envelopes, envelopes without cards..... , posters, wine corks, wood, old pic frames, buttons, thread, fabric, rubber stamps, empty, sturdy candy boxes, sea shells, mailing tubes and envelopes  gift bags and that just barely scratches the surface . I think the best way to walk thru there is to not really have anything particular your looking for in mind because you never know what your gonna find,or what might inspire you......So if you ever get the chance..Go Scrap! PS. I know theres been alot of negative feedback on Yelp about the older lady behind the counter. I was a little hesitant to go. I mean who wants to go there to get yelled at? But honestly , if its the same lady, she is not overly friendly but she rang up my items and everything was pleasant enough.  I think maybe it might get to her when you want to haggle about the prices. The prices are already dirt cheap honestly.....anyway just wanted to let you know i did not have a bad experience with her......

We walked and walked and walked and walked until i though my feet were gonna fall off then we sat a while and walked and walked and walked some more.....I had a very relentless 'partner in crime' who is half my age :)  ....but look at the beautiful flowers i got to see while trudging up ANOTHER hill! Its a bougainvillea vine that just exploded up the side of that house. Gorgeous!
We found ourselves on Haight Street. Hippie town! So many cute little stores. We had a lot of fun looking at everything. Great place to people watch too.

I just HAD to stop and get ice cream here! Such a fun trip. So nice to 'Get out of Dodge' every once in a while.  Can anyone recommend another area of SF i should not miss? I've heard there are great stores on Valencia St and Mission St? Of course i'm not all about the stores......I love the board walk and Golden Gate Park.....so just any little ole' thing you might suggest...........Hugs! deb

Sometimes i Forget.......

..............how important nature is to the well-being of my spirit...These days i spend so much of my time 'in town', 'in city' whether i'm walking in my neighborhood or biking or shopping...I LIVE 'in city' these days.....In my old home in TX i lived 'in the country'..walked in the country, biked in the country and went 'to town' to shop.

........this past week i managed to get my little fanny up and out the door with hubby at 4:30am to spend the day at his work......which to be honest is a GORGEOUS place to have to work. :) (Especially since i don't have to deal with the work stress he does) You've seen the pictures if you've been following for long. If not click here .

As soon as i arrived , opened the car door, breathed in the cool morning air i could feel the stress fall away from me.....stress i didn't even know i'd been carrying........my shoulders relaxed.....shoulders i didn't even know were tight....I smiled at the deer and turkey milling around , not scared of us at all.  I spent the day helping hubby with a few tedious tasks he'd been avoiding...like straightening and updating his magnetic board of all the vehicles he's responsible for. And it felt good to know i took a little weight off his mind.....I read awhile.......picked up turkey feathers.....colored on my picture a while.....took a few walks......definitely something i'm going to continue to do. Don't forget to take care of your spirit like you take care of everything and everyone else.......

Here's a project i've been working on. I'm not sure if you'll see the finished product or not. I thought i had the perfect glue but i've had some trouble with the glass gems popping off. I'm using a glue that says for glass and its weatherproof because these are going outside.....so i don't know...we'll see......If it all comes together i'll show how i did it.......Or better yet you can go here to the blog of Kathewithane which is where this idea was born. I didn't use the same glue that she used......probably my first mistake.....but since my glue said 'for glass' and 'weatherproof' i thought it would be okay......we'll see.....I still love this idea and if need be i  will go get the right glue! Stumbling Rocks........

......I thought it was about time i updated you on the Mermaid drawing.....I've hit a few stumbling blocks.....which are really rocks.....hence the title.....I LOVE how things are turning out in the picture above....'I' who DOES NOT DRAW PEOPLE ...and yes that belongs in capital letters....thinks the Mermaids turned out great!  The skin color and rosy cheeks and even the little dimples in the one above I'am so very happy with.  I also love all the details in the squiggly lines in the rocks.....Where i'm running into trouble is...

I canNOT make up my mind what color to color the rocks.....Keeping in mind that all the background in the middle will be a turquoise blue to really set off the orange hair....As you can see in the picture above i've tried gray and brown and green mixed with grey......I just cannot decide.......And everyone i ask is of a different opinion........

I'm a little further along than these pictures suggest........and you may wonder why i'am mixing the colored rocks.........?.......Well ultimately this drawing is a test drawing . I want to paint it on canvas and here is where i'am trying out all my color combinations.........

I'll take some more pictures of the progress but i'd love to know what you think ........down at the bottom right in the picture above you can see the different color rocks. I know which one draws my eye (I'll tell you next post).....which one catches yours? Its so funny I asked two people close to me what color rock they liked and they  both had different opinions and even different from my own choice.......Hmmm maybe all three would work so there is no clear cut answer here?  but...BUT if someone were twisting your arm...which one would you choose??  OR .....OR.......maybe you have a totally new color combination in mind!  Sometimes i KNOW exactly the direction i want a drawing to go......i have all the colors picked out in my head ahead of time and sometimes ...like now...i get stuck........ Hugs! deb!

Movie Reviews with a Lovely........

.......MailArt background!Just the other day i received this cute little envelope in the mail from super talented Corrine. And it is small ...maybe... 3"X5" and inside is a most lovely and unique little booklet. I thought you would enjoy looking at it while i regale you with my most 'humble' movie opinions...  :)

Lets start with Despicable Me 2.........Anyone new here may not know just how much i despise cartoon movies but my hubby LOVES them so i often get dragged kicking and screaming to at least a couple during the year....This one...I dragged HIM... The Despicable Me movies caught me totally by surprise and i LOVE them.... And what i really love about them are the Minions...they . crack. me. UP! If you do not end up walking around the house going 'Be Doh, Be Doh' after this movie i would be shocked! LOL! Totally worth an afternoon matinee!

World War Z............the whole time i was waiting for this movie to come out i couldn't decide if i wanted to go see it or not.....I thought it was gonna be really, really, good or it was gonna bomb horribly.... As it turns out ....it was really, REALLY good.......Are you a Brad Pitt fan?  I love Brad Pitt , but i've seen him deliver some not so stellar performances...so his movies are usually a hit or miss with me.....Let me tell you if like Brad Pitt here are the movies you don't want to miss...' Legends of the Fall',  'Meet Joe Black', 'Curious Case of Benjamin Button' and now World War Z. AND if you see this movie for no other reason see it for the Zombies.....really unique zombies .....the way they have them move is just creepy..no other word for it...... I hear Brad Pitt made this movie because his sons wanted him to make a zombie movie. That in itself is cool...So really...go ...see...its better than you think.....

Pacific Rim.........one word..Action...Hubs and i loved this movie! It entertained and kept us on the edge of our seats. Imagine the danger not coming from Aliens from outer space but the depths of the ocean. Huge creatures and every new one just keeps getting bigger and bigger .....you build walls between you and the ocean, you create giant robots with men inside to control them to fight the creatures......Really not a dull moment. Great summer flick. Go . See. Eat popcorn...... :)

Okay i try to save my less than stellar reviews for last.....and we have arrived....so.....lets start with Red2.......I honestly did not think i would be hear at the bottom talking about Red2......I LOVED the  first Red.  I mean in the first Red here were some great old timer actors and actresses playing spies with great action and awesome 'one liners' lol! It was hilarious...it was fun.......Red2 lost something.....It lost focus....the whole movie just seemed really scatterbrained for me....I got bored...There were many times i could not understand what Mary-Louise Parker was saying as it was very mumbled....I won't say it was a total bomb because it had its cute moments but not enough of 'those moments' in my opinion to carry the movie....
........and last but not least.......well maybe least......lol........I dragged hubby to see The Conjuring....Hubby drags me to cartoons and i drag him to scary movies....he tells me, "Wake me up when its over"....lol.......And the Conjuring....except for a few instances...you really could have slept thru......Really a yawn.....If you just HAVE to see it...rent it......totally......And i'm one of those people that walk into a scary movie WANTING to be scared...completely open to it....but this one just did not do it for me.....Well there you go...my two cents worth.....hope it helps!

Wasn't that little booklet something! Thank you so much Corrine! I so look forward to your MailArt! Hugs! deb
