Second Wind.............

...............things around here are catching their second wind.......I was in CA this time last year and i really noticed it and its no different this year......When the temps drop down to the highs in the 70's and 80's instead of flirting with 100 everything seems to spring to life.......

My poor purple Sugar Daddy petunias really took a beating.......and not from just the heat........something......and i'm thinking a caterpillar here( i saw a few)
.......found them delicious.........I tried spraying soapy water....with little effect ....and i finally broke down and bought some Sevin spray......and only after several applications did i see any noticeable improvement...... and just this last week or so they have burst forth with all the blooms they withheld this summer or ....should i say all the blooms that were eaten......

Alyssum still going strong.(white flower)..... I'am super impressed with it. I originally only thought it a Spring flower.......And the tropical Hibiscus keeps throwing out blooms.......The Geraniums in the big pot there were total under achievers this year......don't know whats wrong.......they are big and green and lovely but! no blooms.......The small pot next to the big pot.......i finally pulled out the Marigolds that were there......they did not do well either......not bad just not as well as i would like.......

So to usher in the Fall i planted some Viola also called Johnny Jump Ups......they are an off shoot of the Pansy!! Actually these came first......Then Texas A and M developed the larger Pansy from them ......... unfortunately in most cases they lost their smell so they could have larger blooms...... These Viola smell heavenly when i walk out the front door....

Now if your squeamish.......DO NOT SCROLL DOWN

Hubby hurt his finger last week at work! They were moving a barrel and someone's hand slipped and hubby caught his finger between the barrel and an unmovable object! OUCH! 9 stitches later it at least resembles a fingertip again.....Seems to be healing nicely but boy does it throb and hurt him....i think its finally easing up.....Hugs! deb

My Mailbox..........

.........has been overflowing with wonderful , colorful, yumminess! I cannot begin to tell you how wonderful it is to open your mailbox and see something colorful in there that is not an ad paper or a bill or junk mail but something made just for you. And for the past week or so it they have just kept coming!

This one is from my friend Eileen over at the Artful Crafter. We have been trading MailArt for quite some time now. Isn't this gorgeous? Look at all those minnows ! And what could be better than a purple shark!? My favorite color!  I tried and tried to get a good picture of this one but i ended up swiping the one she posted of it. I think my camera just couldn't figure out where to focus there's so much going on here!

This one is from Corrine over at SparkleDaysStudio....
She is such a wonderful abstract artist. I love how everything looks so helter skelter at first then she pulls everything together beautifully!

This bright and beautiful card comes from June over at                   A Creative Dreamer. June just hosted a terrific PostCard Swap that i participated in . Not only does she host but sends each 'Swapper' a postcard! That adds up to a lot of postcards!! I like the quote too!

This is the postcard i received from my Swap partner Gretchen. I love it! It was so pretty and Fall-like coming out of the mailbox!

I apologize for being a little absent around here lately..... Sometimes ideas and words for a post just don't come........ I have been crafting though along with playing a wonderful game  that i have to share with you. Thank you so much for all the wonderful Congratulations! I'm still waiting for my free book to come in the mail! I make myself walk not run to the mailbox every day. :) Hugs! deb

Are you Sitting Down?

..........seriously you might want to sit down........... I have been keeping a secret for quite some time now.........didn't know that huh?  Well the cat is out of the bag... so to speak... :)

Several months ago....... like back in May....  i stumbled across a submission call for doodles for a new book. It didn't cost anything to enter so ......i poked through all my doodles and picked the one i loved the most hoping others would too. And guess what? They did love it!!!  Can you guess which one?

The book is Zen Doodle Tons of Tangles and is available on Amazon starting October 11th. But you can follow the link to get a look at it.  I have some incredible company in that book . Including my Bloggy Friend June over at A Creative Dreamer.  She even made the cover!!!

My free copy should be arriving by the end of the month and I CAN NOT WAIT!  Me......... a Published Artist ..... a friend tells me i should starting putting P.A. after my name now when i sign it... lol! Isn't that a grand friend. :) Seriously i cannot stop grinning... i'm sitting here grinning like an idiot as i write this! Hugs! deb

P.S. There could possibly ....no promises.... be a GiveAway associated with this auspicious occasion..... But you'll have to be patient......like me....(yeah right) ...... more on that later!

Weekend Shenanigans......

This past weekend hubs had a company luncheon to attend and being the crafter that i'am ... :) ... I had him drop me off at Michaels while he went to the buffet.  Then there was the HalfPrice Book store around the corner... Oh My!...  Yes i was a happy camper...

Then we looked around for something to do. We are not often in Fremont... I think this is my second time in this town. What we found was Shinn Park and Arboretum. The link will
tell you more than i ever could. But it was beautiful and so nice walking around arm in arm with hubs. We've been what you might call slightly hibernating this summer away from the heat. But with the high about 80 degrees its time to come out and play.
Now when i first saw this tree i was like OMG is that a Magnolia Tree?  I've never seen one so large! It has the same waxy green leaves but.................

No.......... but my goodness it was huge and unbelievably beautiful! The stories it could share...... 133 years old!

Next stop was Central Park of Fremont. I was hoping i could find a website with better pictures than i took but a Yelp review was the best i could do. Canadian Geese everywhere! I was in seventh heaven!! I just love them!

I twisted hubby's arm just a little and we walked the 2 mile path around the entire lake. You know once he gets out there he has a great time.  He's such a people person. He talks to people and pets their dogs and helped some ladies take down a canopy they were having trouble with.... asked some fishermen if they caught anything and we got into a conversation on fishing in CA.  An old man was fishing with a loooong cane pole with no reel. Then we saw some fishing poles that were bent over with a spring that if a fish hits the line the pole flips up setting the hook! I need me one of those! I have such trouble being fast enough to set the hook.

Then this man was just sitting there enjoying the day feeding the birds......geese...pigeons...mallard ducks...sea gulls..... Just a good day.... What did you do? Hugs! deb

I'm Lovin' It!

Hubby not so much...........it may be his dream but the colors and such are just a little too weird for him. I knew it would be...... but for some reason i persist and then feel disappointed when he's not over the moon about it.....

Realism impresses him oh Lordy there doesn't seem to be a drop of realism in my blood... :) But i honestly love the artwork i've been turning out. And that is what truly matters. But theres a part of me that seeks out approval. I want him to be as excited about what i'm making as i'am and thats just unrealistic. I just have to get thicker skin. And believe it or not i'am getting tougher . There was a day if hubby didn't like it i would have stopped drawing ... stopped creating...  but now?  I do it anyway!Hugs! deb

Sometimes I Just Get ..........

..............covered up! A few of my blogging buddies Eileen and June have been showing their work spaces and how they decluttered and put everything in its place......... so i thought i'd show mine... This is my main work table (above). I always have so many projects going on at once.  I cannot just stay with one thing. Its how i roll and i just quit fighting it. LOL! But sometimes i DO have to dig myself out and start fresh...

I had some flat smooth rocks i painted black and wrote Just Breathe with a white pen and put a coat of sealer on top. I leave these along the sidewalk where i take my daily walks and they are always gone the next day. I hope they find their way to someone who just happens to need to hear those words.......

This is the big project on the desk at the moment. They do get knocked out pretty quickly. The stickler is i have to stop and let the glue dry a little bit before i can turn the bottle. So lots of starts and stops here and its easy to get distracted by something else......

This is my little side desk over by the window.......yes....that is still THAT tote back waiting for me to get back to it..... its been there so long Jinx likes to take a nap on it...... And a Halloween ceramic project.......I'm going to put pearlized paint on the ghost. I think he is going to look amazing........

I KNOW! You can't really tell i straightened anything up huh?  Take my word for it.....at least i can see the top of the desk....sort of.....  :)  ... Hugs! deb

There's a Story............

...........behind this hand........this is hubby's hand..........i chose to base the theme on a reoccurring dream he has had for as long as i've known him......pushing 30 years.... That's a long time to have the same dream........

The dream is simple enough......... Purple octopuses attack his school....  I'm hoping you can see the octopus in this sketch and the bricks stand for his school....

Hubby always, always plays the narrator in his dreams...... do you do that?..... Isn't that weird?  Anyway i'm about halfway thru coloring this one and i really like it. Show you soon! Hugs! deb

If You've Been Waiting..........

..........with bated breath wondering how many tshirts i sold
at MisterDressUp wait no longer.............

I sold exactly................0..........
um......yeah.........sigh....... it was then i asked Samuel at MisterDressUp how many tshirts he sells on average per week..... ya know... just to know...  and he said between 10 and 30 depending on how much advertising the artist themselves do.... oh ... Thats not 10 - 30 shirts per artist thats for the whole week for all the artists combined...... oh ......  Well since i don't do facebook
or twitter or anything else i guess i'm not a good advertiser for my own stuff...... :) Oh well....  it was fun going to his website and seeing my drawing on his tshirt. And he did invite me back to submit more art so, we'll see.

We've been cooling off a little bit around here. But then i see we're flirting around the 100 degree mark this coming weekend so false alarm Fall is not here yet! :(  We often drive past the place with the Corn Maze and the corn is getting TALL!  I wonder if they cut the maze in the corn when the corn is small then let it grow or do they cut the maze into it once its grown....???  I think it would be easier to cut when small.........?
I hope Fall is visiting you............ i have the Welcome mat out.....Hugs!deb

PS...You should be able to click on the images to see them larger! :)
