New Year Approaching......

I hope you will click to enlarge..............

I hope you had a fabulous Christmas and you're headed toward an incredible New Year......

This New Year holds alot of changes for us....hubby retiring, selling and finding a new home in a different state......

All of it scary and exciting at the same time....You can plan and plan and plan and cross your T's and dot you 'I's and STILL something can go wrong.... You just have believe you've made the right choices...the right decisions, looked at it from all angles... and then take that leap.... Posting might be a little scarce around here as i finally get down to business and get to packing what i can pack.... a move is still quite a ways in the future as hubby cannot seal in his retirement pay until April...but we will be taking pictures of the house and showing it and such......

If hubby is not 10 steps ahead he's not happy. But i figure thats better than the alternative..... :)  I have boxes and paper coming out my ears just waiting for my attention........ I'm going to start with the stuff we don't use much.... to include alot of my crafting supplies... So probably not much crafting going on until we find our Forever Home....which i KNOW is out there somewhere.... Its gonna kill me.  If i don't have something crafty in the works i'm just not....settled...if that makes sense... I will leave a few things out but the majority will get packed.

So you know what the New Year holds for me....What about you?? Hugs! deb

Happy Hoildays My Tea People!

Mr. and Mrs. Santa Claus would like to take you on a trip around our Christmas tree this year.....Nearly everything is new...... Just when i've decided to put owls on my tree they become hard to find...or at least ones i like... The berries are new...the first time i've ever put them on a tree and i like them!

This angel was made for me by a sweet little girl a long time ago and i think she looks just perfect on the tree.....Lower left you can see a cardinal........

More of those new balls and  see that little one in the middle...those are the ones i made last year out of cabinet knobs... and you can see the wooden snowflakes...

........Another owl.......

................I hope you'll enlarge each picture....... It took me a little while to get my tree together this year.... just feeling a little scroogie for no good reason at all............  I think its the knowledge that we will be packing every thing up soon to move....... the Realtor will be coming around after the first of the year to take pictures... and very soon every thing will be happening way to fast........ I feel like i just unpacked.......

I'm afraid no liquid refreshment in this weeks post.......But i'd still like to join Elizabeth and Bleubeard. If you'd like to see some more Tea related posts hop on over there for a visit! Hugs! deb

SnowFlakes are Falling.............

..............Well not really......and if they are its only in the nearby Sierra Mtns OR inside my home.........lol.......  Please, please click on this snowflake picture to enlarge so you can REALLY see them.  I had a tough time deciding which photograph to put in the header because i wanted you to see them BOTH large. In the end i chose the white sparkly one because i'm just a glitter kinda gal.. :)

I didn't take any step by step photos of these projects because they were really pretty easy....  The one in the header is a wood snowflake i think i bought at Michael's I painted it white and while i putting a clear coat on top i added the super fine glitter while it was wet.. I had some leftover gems from last year's project....remember this?   It will join the snowflakes i hang on my window every year.  i did not find a beaded snowflake i liked to add to my collection so this one will have to do.....

Michael's has the most spectacular collection of wooden snowflakes to decorate.......I decided to stain a bunch of them. This actually took awhile.....as the wood REALLY soaks up the stain. I thought it would only take one coat as i did not want them too dark but it actually took 3.  Then i put a clear coat on them and then used RubNBuff Gold Leaf on them. When the light hits them they are gorgeous...

Another project that has kept me busy are these angels.....7 to be exact............. I've had them a very long time........at least 15-20 years and little did i know hubby hated them all these years....lol Why he waits til NOW to tell me i have no idea......I thought maybe it had something to do what color they were. Honestly it was an ugly brown cardboard color and i had always planned on painting them SOMEDAY... well someday came this year....lol......I don't know what they are made of something really heavy duty though... with texture....Reminds me of really heavy duty cardboard but its more than that.....  SO first i painted them all a bright shiny gold then i used antique gold around the edges and finally a little warm brown around the edges......... Honestly i like how they turned out. Hubs still doesn't like them. He says its something about the head....I'm not fond of the way the head was made either ....Maybe i could decapitate it and give it a wooden head at some point.......I'll have to look into that maybe next year....

Using my current fav coffee cup this morning enjoying my Half Caff Folgers coffee......... I'm so sorry i'm a little late to the party this week........Its so dreary around here lately i had a hard time getting good photos. I tried to wait for the sun to peek out but with the heavy fog and storms expected i don't think thats gonna happen. :) I'm joining Ms. Elizabeth and Bleubeard for T Tuesday...won't you join us?  Hugs! deb

Mother Earth...........

.........received a drink from Father Sky today. If you look close you can see a raindrop on the window.. :) So thats my drink for Tea Tuesday......... I'm sorry i'm late... I almost didn't post. I just could not find an inspiring photo to post....... Its been raining steadily since early early this morning... glorious rain.....

California is the only place i've lived that it can rain all day and you come away with maybe  half an inch of rain , if your lucky...  Rain was scarce in TX too but.... BUT when it rained it RAINED.. buckets!  Stormy, windy.... several inches of rain in a couple hours... it was an event!   Here it drizzles.......mists........but today i've actually had rain in the gutters... flowing out the downspouts... a good rain......... and its suppose to do it tomorrow.........

No complaints here.......ever.......

The dreary light from the rain soaked clouds still managed to set aglow a new Christmas Cactus bloom.  The white one is about finished and the pink has started to pop......... So pretty with the light through the petals........  I hope you have a fabulous T Tuesday. If you'd like to visit with some more T drinkers pop on over to Elizabeth's and Bleubeards. They love to have you for Tea. Big Hugs! deb

Success and a Failure for Tea........

I braved the depths of my coffee cup shelves in an effort to show you a different mug....lol ...... I think its funny how each cup in my cupboard has had a turn at being my favorite mug only to be replaced by the next one that catches my eye....

I'am so sorry to bombard you with Halloween pictures but my crafting is kinda like my Christmas cactus that bloomed last week... Its kind of on its own time line......

And when i finish something or am very near to finishing something and i LOVE how it turned out i want to show you even if it is almost Thanksgiving........I HAVE told you the story of how all my unpainted ceramics came to be haven't i? Well just in case you are new to blog and have no idea what i'm talking about I'll tell you.... It was a most wonderful moment in my life..... Hubs and i well we don't have a whole lot in common except for the love we share for each other which is endless..... So we struggle to find things to do together... because we do love each others company....

One year we found out that the military base where hubby worked had a place where you could pour ceramics. So i took a class, then taught hubby and we spent several glorious months almost every weekend pouring ceramics of anything and everything i thought i might want as a knick knack in the house....... We would usually show up about 10am... pick the molds and clean them, strap them together , pour the slip (liquid clay) then go to lunch at the bowling alley...... Come back an hour later and the molds would almost always be ready to empty out...

We were always so excited to open the molds. Opening a mold and having a successful piece was almost like Christmas every time. Then they have to dry and you scrape off all the seams and rough edges and then you have them fired. I paint mine with Acrylic paint then put a spray finish on them.....so mine are only fired once....

I just went and did a rough count and i got at least 50.... We just always said they would give me something to do in old age... lol .. I love having all these pieces to paint but the time spent with hubby was priceless.......

The tree and pumpkins are all drybrushed...... not that i really know what i'am doing when i dry brush but i try and i do like how it turned out. I used pearlescent paint on the ghost and he really does look like he glimmers and glows .......

And in an effort to keep it 'real' around here. I wanted to show you that not all projects turn out ALL the time....  Remember this project??? Well...............

This is what i ended up with one year later..........My weather proof/ waterproof glue.....well .... not so much......  However i do love this project and plan on giving it another go.... I have found some glue i'am much happier with .  I won't be attempting this again anytime soon as  a move is in my near future....Yes you heard that right.....My man has decided to retire and we are going to put the rat race of California in our rearview mirror.....  I'm sure i'll tell you lots more as time goes on.......But i think i'll give this project another chance in our new home.....Happy Tday my Tea People.... from over there at Elizabeth's and Bleubeards....Hugs! deb

Second on the 2nd Post.....

Joining Elizabeth and Bleubeard for the Second on the 2nd for the first time... Hope i'm doing this right....lol   This post is from way back in 2014 when we were still in CA! I forgot how much i so love that dragonfly even if he is goofy! Hugs! deb

...........Sketchbook Friday with Dion Dior! This is what i've been sketching in the evenings while i have one eye on the TV and one eye in the sketch book.

I want to come up with several different houses then put them all in a line on a long canvas.  Two done.... lots to go. :)

Here is probably the final shot of the dragonfly. I tilted the paper and if you enlarge it ( click on it) you can see the iridescent medium i added here and there. This little guy was so much fun.  I hope everyone has a great weekend!!! Thanks so much for stopping by! Hugs! deb

Greedy Little Buggers...........

Most of my visitors at the bird feeder are tiny....little finches and wrens.....but i do have a couple larger birds that come around for regular visits............ Perhaps my friend in Canada , Ms Violet can help me with identification but i THINK they are called Scrub Jays??  It does not show up too well in the photo but those grayish areas are actually blue. A very pretty bird. Loud and bossy....just like a Jay in my opinion......but no crest on the head whatsoever and that is throwing me a little.... When i think of a Jay i always think of a crest on the head??....

Anyway........ I was standing at the kitchen sink the other day when these two came a calling...... I stood there enjoying watching them for so long that i started noticing they were not actually EATING the seeds.....they were stuffing their mouths with the sunflower seeds like a squirrel and then flying off with a mouthful and coming back for more...!  And i thought to myself...'greedy little buggers'!! Can't blame them for being opportunistic though right? Gotta get it while the gettin's good!!!

I'm so glad we put the bird feeder up even though we weren't ready to tackle landscaping the yard. I've really enjoyed watching the birds while i do dishes......really any time of day i stop by for gander..... I hope everybody is staying warm and toasty. So many people i talk with online are buried up to their eyeballs in snow and COLD...be safe! Hugs! deb

War Zone................

GoodMorning my TeaPeople! I'm sitting here on a chilly November morn sipping my cup of coffee in my mermaid cup ...but this week you shall have to take my word for it as i made no attempt to take a picture of it.......... Jinx is curled up on a blanket somewhere and if he's found a warm spot i may not see him all day.........WeatherMan says we got down to 37 last night.....many more of those and this tree may not be blooming long...  Do any of you know what kind of tree this is?

Let me tell you........the hummingbirds LOVE this tree!!! They fight over it all day long............ DiveBombing each other, buzzing and zipping here and there. ! This must be the Nectar of the Gods! So thats my drink for this week's post. :)

It is rather susceptible to aphids.......and i've  had to fight them a few times but so far i've been successful.....   So if anybody knows the name of it please let me know.

The Goofy Dragonfly is coming along (see header) ............. Now i have to figure out what to do about the background...... I'm always so intent upon the main figure that i forget the background......If you come back Friday i'll hold the picture up to the light and you can see where i've added some iridescent medium here and there...... I hope you have an awesome week! Linking with Ms. Elizabeth and Bleubeard..... Big Hugs! deb

At First Blush.........

.............You may think this is just a beautiful flower but.......I'm here to tell you this is one confused flower! This is my Christmas
Cactus.........yeah....I don't know how she got so screwed up this year. :)  I have three.....this one, then a red and darker pink....the other two are putting on buds too. I'm sure they will be blooming by Thanksgiving.  I know i bought these around Christmas time two years ago.......but they just seem to keep backing up their bloom date....this is the earliest i've had one bloom. She is gorgeous...... I hope you are having a beautiful week.  Thank you so much for all your wonderful comments. I'm so glad you take the time to visit with me. Hugs! deb

Jinx Approved............

I should have used that picture of Jinx for Halloween with those glowing eyes. :)Spooky...See him sitting there on a heating pad...? Yeah he's in heaven

....Each one of these pictures will enlarge if you click on them. I'd like you to notice the flowers....bright orangy/red how could use miss them right?

This one in the bottom left especially...... Its the one i've used Gamsol on it.  If you enlarge the very first picture you can really tell the difference between the bottom left flower with Gamsol and the other two i haven't done yet.... LOVE how it blends all the colors together......Makes me look like i know what i'm doing... :)

If you've been following along....(read previous post) about the Shower People......here's an update........ Tues a guy came to remove the glass ...finally........ then yesterday Wed. a guy shows up to remove the marble YEAH!.... then he wanted to put a new piece right back in .......um.......no..... I told him i thought they were doing something to reinforce the floor and build up the back wall (where the crack keeps returning).....he didn't know anything about it...infact when he walked in he had to ask me what the problem was..............seriously........ So i told him i didn't think he was meant to put the new marble in right away and he called his boss and i talked to his boss and apparently somebody dropped the ball on the communication front.....So the guy took that new piece of marble back to the shop and not 20 minutes later the guy who is coordinating all of this from the company who built the house came by and i told him I saved him a piece of marble....!Because trust me they would have taken that wall right back out and do what they said they were gonna do...Grrrrr.....

So anyway after all that........they are coming today(between 8-11am) to reinforce the floor and the wall, then next week they will start putting it all back together............sheesh........ I hope your having a better week than i 'am . :)  This is posted a little early but i'll but joining with DionDior's Sketchbook Fridays...... And Paint Party Fridays........ Hugs! deb

Happy T Day My Tea People!

How are you?  I'm sitting here with my last cup of coffee for the day WAITING for the shower people....... If you've been visiting here for very long you know that Hubs and i live in basically a new house. Its 2 years old this month!  Well within the first year the faux marble in our master bath shower cracked. Cracked!  And since it was under warranty they fixed it..... thank goodness right?!

Well not too long ago i noticed that it had cracked again IN THE SAME PLACE! Well apparently this is unheard of...... that coming from the company....... So they hem-hawed around , thats a word right? and finally just this past Friday someone came out to look at it.... Hubs was not here , so it was just me and boy did they put me thru the ringer....'Are you sure you want all that mess','You know you will be out of a shower for days or weeks......' 'Its not a very big crack and it doesn't seem to be getting larger , are you SURE you want to mess with it....' , ' How hot do you have your hot water heater set? If it too high that might crack it' So we went out to check it and they thought i had it set too low, so there went that theory........

Um yes i want the crack in my shower FIXED. Preferably permanently this time.......... sheesh..... Hubs thinks if he was there we wouldn't have heard all that stuff..... Ah well.....i stuck to my guns. (Of course they don't know that i worked for a home improvement store for years. I think that prepared me a little to handle these guys)I mean really its a fairly new house. A cracked shower is just ridiculous .  So anyway long story short a guy is due here today between 10 and 1pm to take the glass out....Wed. a guy is coming to take the marble out...... then sometime mid Nov.  they will put it all back together....... Thank goodness i have a second bathroom!

Well if you've managed to hang in there thru my Shower Story lol I'll tell you about my Tea Picture.  Sorry about the repeat of the cup but i LOVE that cup. Now the candle holder...... I made that..... Really its a nacho cheese jar in disguise.... I glued glass gems all over it then grouted it.....I have NEVER grouted before......whew! I did not kill it...... Infact i like it quite a lot..... I still have some embellishments i want to add so maybe i will show that next week... I learned a few things along the way.....

A.  those glass gems that you buy at the craft store well.......most of the time the color is PAINTED on! I did not know this...... maybe you did......... sigh........

B.   they  make sanded and unsanded grout ......... if your working with these painted on gems you definitely want the unsanded grout . Because the sanded kind will scratch the paint off..... I hand to be very light handed and careful but i managed to get it done without many scratches....... So trust me get the unsanded. :) I think it will give a much smoother , nicer finish......

So THERE my first attempt at grouting anything...... I do see more in my future once i work out all the kinks..... I hope you are having a happy T day. I'm so glad you stopped by ! Hugs! deb

Winner and .............a rant..........

I don't rant on here often......... mostly because thats not what i want this blog to be about ....... I want it to be about arts and crafts and the little bit of traveling Hubby and i do........ Other than Hubby i don't even talk about family because they would rather not be talked about... :) Who can blame them......who knows WHAT i might say........LOL!  But once in a while something comes along that i have a thing or two to say about........ even then i usually don't say it on the blog. Mostly because i find my opinions about things tend to differ from most other people i know. Even differ from Hubby... which believe me can lead to some lively discussions...:)  Which in the end sometimes we just have to agree to disagree.... but how boring would life be if we were all like minded...... 'Variety is the spice of life.......' Now before i completely bore you with my rant (which i'm not even sure it can be called a rant) I want to tell you who the spider is going home with......drumrollllll..........

MS. Violet!!!! You WON!!!  AND i already have your address from a previous GiveAway and such.........So give me some time to get my act together and get it packaged and get to the post office.......I'll let you know when its winging its way to you! :)  Yeah!!!

Now you may think my rant has to do with that can of caulk up there in the header and the photo above...Nope...... spied this up at hubby's work and it was just TOO COOL looking not to share. :) The caulk is suppose to be red but some of the contents separated and pushed it's way out... Cool or what?

No I want talk about Ebola....... Did you just roll your eyes??  :)  No really there are some things i just don't understand..... Hubby and i have been discussing this alot.... how can we help it when its in the news so much......And i guess i'm just dumbfounded....... I don't understand the logic of intentionally bringing in this deadly disease to our country when there has never been a case of it here before.  I can sympathize with the Americans who were in a different country helping others with the disease that they would want to come home to America to be treated.  However most of these people were health care workers that to me should have been appalled at the idea of bringing Ebola to the US no matter how carefully it was handled.... Why take that risk that it could get away.......?I guess i hold health care workers to a higher standard...... And then there's this nurse in NJ who does not think she should be quarantined.... really? This is not your average Joe.... she's a nurse who had been helping Ebola patients in other countries ......imagine the horrors that she has seen.......Why would she want to risk bringing that to anyone here? I just don't get it......

THEN........i caught a headline or something on the radio......i can't remember where i heard it and i had a huge aha moment...... Really sometimes my naivete amazes even me........ This never even dawned on me...........and i didn't read the whole article or listen to the report or whatever it was i heard it from but the headline was the pharmaceutical companies were behind allowing Ebola patients into the country...... Imagine the money they would make if Ebola became an issue in this country........ you know there's no money in helping a third world country but the US? Yeah baby...... And i'm like OMG that makes total sense but i never would have thought up that evil on my own....... i just don't think that way.......

And is anyone else disappointed at the lack of readiness by the CDC?? I expected more from them......... the fact that there is no kind of protocol for the people coming back to the US after being around Ebola patients and such is just nuts...... This deal with the nurse should not even be an issue......

OH! And then i heard on the news that you know it would be really difficult to screen people for high temperatures coming into the US because if someone was sick and they really wanted to get into the country they could take a temperature reducing medicine like Tylenol and get in that way.......and AGAIN i was shocked..... someone would really do that?  And hubby looked at me like i was nuts and said Yeesss ofcourse they would...... I just don't think about that side of people.........aaarrgghh.. So any way If you'd like to discuss this Ebola thing feel free....... Maybe you might know something i don't know and so forth...... Lets just keep it civil...no bashing....... Lets talk people!Big Hugs!!! deb

Well the Party is Over............

I hope everyone had a grand time! This morning its back to normal. Jinx is upstairs sleeping it off and i've been downstairs working on that sketch over coffee.......... Do you see that card lying next to the sketch??

Well thats some wonderful MailArt i received from Eileen the Artful Crafter.  We exchange some postcards every now and then. We've been doing it for quite awhile now and its been so much fun.  She is a digital art master let me tell you. Mine have a more 'homespun' look to them but some of the things she can achieve digitally is just amazing.  I call her my crafting guru. If you have a crafty question she can answer it  or if she doesn't know right away she will figure it out!!

Hubs and i have spent a grand couple of evenings playing this game together on the computer..... Some nights we'll turn off a tv full of reruns and and just immerse ourselves in a Seek and Find game... or you might call it Hidden Object game........We LOVE them. Its fun figuring out the puzzles together.  And this one by Viva Media  called Nightmares from the Deep , The Cursed Heart was a really good one. The special effects and artwork are just amazing. And nobody paid me to say that. LOL!

I'm so glad to all who stop by and say hello!! I hope you have a great week leading up to Halloween. They are giving a 90% chance of rain here for Halloween night so all the kiddies might be getting wet......... but we'll take the rain!
If you made it all the way to the end of this post and you would like to be in a GiveAway for this spider let me know in the comments. I used to make spiders several years ago and i've had the urge to make more. I've seen lots of lovely beads out there there that would just make fabulous spiders.
            * You do not need to be a follower though it would be nice if you were.........

              * State in your comment somewhere that you want to be in the GiveAway.........

               * I will pick a name on Halloween over my morning coffee..........

                * I will do my best to contact you but its up to you to check back here Friday Halloween to see if you've won...

*I will ship this baby spider International......

                 * You will have 48 hours to get me your snail mail addy and i will get the spider in the mail to you  as soon as humanly possible.. :)  Isn't this fun!!!  Have a spooktacular week!!! And don't forget to visit all the other tea drinkers around here all collected in one place thanks to Ms. Elizabeth!   Hugs! deb

Early Friday Sketches.............

I'll be out of pocket tomorrow (Friday) and i wanted to be sure to show you what i've been working on in that sketchbook that Jinx wouldn't let me show last week..lol...... Above is the inspiration photo for the sketch...
Before you get excited...no i didn't take this photo And worse i cannot tell you who did.  I like to browse thru the photos at Wunderground weather website and when i went back to get the name of the artist this photo was no where to be found.... So if anyone knows i will gladly give credit........
Click on the photo above so you can get a good look at the face on that dragonfly....isn't it amazing?!

I just kept seeing it as a big toothy grin..... Here it is coming to life in my sketchbook......writing myself little notes for changes and ideas...trying out color schemes....still not sure about a color scheme...any thoughts??

I liked it well enough that i copied it to some better sketchbook paper and started fleshing out some details....  The picture on the header above is the finished sketch....... Now the fun part begins....
                                  COLOR!!!
I'll be linking to Friday sketches and Paint Party Friday when they get their posts up......I hope you enjoyed seeing the progress.... You should be able to click on each photo to enlarge.  So glad you stopped by!!! Hugs! deb

My First Ever Apple Pie............

This past weekend was our annual trip to Apple Hill in the foothills of the Sierra Mtns......... My advice to you is to never NEVER attempt to go there on a weekend and NEVER in the middle of the day....madness, sheer and utter madness........ the people, the lines , the cars.......The loveliness of the place just cannot quite make up for all the madness.... But the smell of the pine when i stepped out of the truck and the taste of fresh cider on my tongue was almost ...almost ...worth it... Needless to say we didn't stay long...... Made a quick trip around the craft stalls , grabbed a few free cups of cider and i made a beeline for the apples. I was on a mission!
I wanted to make my first EVER apple pie. I always make apple crisp but i found this recipe at Estelle's. Which is a lovely blog to visit....wonderful recipes and gorgeous photography... I tried to find the post with the Apple Pie recipe but i couldn't find it. But if you'd like the recipe let me know and i'll give it to you.

The apples i chose were Gravenstein. Yea i never heard of them either but they were pretty....great criteria for picking apples no? :) And the sign said they were tart which the recipe said i needed...  After a Google search at home i found that they are originally from Norway and have been grown there for a couple hundred years.....

My first attempt at a two crust pie!  Pretty!

Not so pretty after the baking.... but pie doesn't have to be pretty does it?? Especially if its going to be consumed at home. :) Hubs thinks i put too many apples in the pie...All i know was that i was ever so happy i had the foresight to put a tray under the pie while it baked! Whew...usually its my hindsight that it 20/20... :)

Apple Pie A La Mode!!!Yum!!! It really turned out GOOD!! even if its not pretty.   Have you tried anything new lately on the cooking front?Hope your having a great week! Big Hugs! deb
