Fourth Friday Challenge!!!

If you remember...... this is where we left off last month.... June i have to tell you ........ this Fourth Friday Challenge has been the 'kick in the pants' i've needed to get over some mighty big hurdles...

After i took that top picture i didn't touch it for weeks.... which is kind of my M.O. aka procrastination......... but THEN Fourth Friday started looming closer and closer and i WANTED something to show so had to grit my teeth and mark on the canvas........ whipped out the ruler and pencil and just got down to business ...... its pencil people how exactly do i think i'm gonna mess this up?

I liked how everything looked in pencil......whew......so i outlined everything in Pitt Pen.......... that was a little nerve wracking but actually went pretty smoothly .........And after a while became kinda relaxing...... all the lines were made already in pencil all i had to do was follow along...... it was a brand new pen and it had no trouble going over the acrylic paint......  LOVE my Pitt Pen. And as an extra bonus all the pencil lines erased with no problem!

As i started painting the 'petals' the painting morphed in my head again........ go figure........ :) .........All this time i'v been leaning away from color....... just wanting to stay with the neutral tones.... But then i got that look at my sketch book...... the second picture from the top and i'm really liking that greenish blue color there........ so who knows....... YOU'LL know by next Fourth Friday what direction i went.  Here's the link if you want to link up with June on Fourth Friday. I hope you'll let it challenge you! Thank you so much June!

Hush..........

..............you know that hushed kind of feeling just before it rains ......... like the whole world is holding its breath......... ? ......... Thats how it feels today...... Rain has been predicted for the next three days and the stormy clouds have lowered and not a breath of air to be found and every living thing is waiting......

I hadn't realized how much i've missed that feeling........ here in the land of eternal sunshine........ At a time when i should be tired of the rain heading into late Spring...... instead i'am waiting , wishing.... hoping for buckets and buckets full.........

Above is the star that used to hang on my fence in TX .....its been given a fresh coat of paint and  a new place to hang on our CA home....... I love the way the sun is hitting the lavender ......

I've been busy as a bee........ working on my Fourth Friday Challenge and the Spring Postcard Swap.......... I had to step away from the yogurt project so i could complete these two events on the agenda........... Stepping away is probably a good thing....... You know how you can step away from a drawing or painting for awhile and then come back and look at it with a fresh perspective? Like that..... I've made wonderful progress on all three projects.... June's Fourth Friday Challenge really gets me motivated to step out of my comfort zone.......... I had to step past the place where i normally get stuck just so i would have something to show you come Friday....... It won't be finished by Friday but i'am past a huge hurdle ! Hugs! deb

Something Extraordinarily Different.......

................Here its been almost a week since i've posted anything and........... i still have nothing to post........ :) .......... I feel like the little Engine that could ....... i keep chugging and chugging away at projects and i just cannot seem to get to the finish line with any of them........ I have an awful lot to accomplish in the next two weeks.... The Yogurt Cup Project.... Hubby's second bookshelf i'am antiquing and putting a clear varnish on it to finish it up...... a Postcard Swap ..... the Fourth Friday Challenge project...... whew!

So while sitting here drinking my last cup of coffee for the day i thought i would share something extraordinarily different than my usual blog fare......  Thats ME in the middle...... and my two big brothers........ I believe they were 12 and 14 years old when i came along......... I was.... lets say a SURPRISE... lol.......My mom thought there was something terribly wrong with her when she went to the doctor ...... the fact that she was pregnant at 38 never crossed her mind.......

The doctor who had been our family doctor for years walked in the examination room with a big smile on his face and threw a baby bottle at her and asked if she was ready to do it all over again..... :)

Wouldn't it be interesting if you could look at someone and KNOW what they would do with their lives........? The brother on the left went into the Navy and then the Fire Department ....... the brother on the right became an air-condition/refrigeration repair man like his father....... and the girl in the middle...... never found a career other than being married to the same man for 25 years..... often finding herself up to her elbows in paint and crafty things.... always has her nose in a book....... knows an awful lot of useless trivia..... never happier than when she's hiking or in nature in general....... flower gardening lover....... tree hugger......... too bad none of those things bring in a paycheck or could be considered a career..... :) But i'm happy......... and well loved........ and should count for something......

Hang in there......... hopefully next time i'll have something better to post than an old family photo....... :) Hugs! deb

WHY .... Why..... why.....

................ does there seem to be a whole lot more finding its way INTO my craft room than finished product coming out???? I ask you... any clue???  LOL! :) But seriously ........ when you are walking along ( up at hubby's work) and you see 'roses' falling from pine trees ........how could you NOT pick them up??

..........on the right is how they look when the first fall from the tree... then they start falling apart into little roses! I can so see these made into a wreath....... not that i've done anything like that before but i'm sure gonna try.........

Then yesterday i was at hubby's work again...... not to really work this time but to see him receive his 35 years pin. 35 years working for Uncle Sam! Wow! Everyone insisted i stand up there with him.... sigh...... i surely did not want to..... I'm sure when the picture comes out i will be as red faced as the table cloth that was there....... hmmm maybe it will be like camouflage and i will just blend into the table.......  Honestly i just wanted to sit there and take my own picture of him and watch him walk up there and get that award and now i don't have that memory...... everyone kept insisting to the point it would have been very rude of me to not get up there with him....people were just being nice... but I'am comfortable with him in the spot light and me in the shadows.... Anyway..... its done and now i will have a picture to prove that i put all that weight back on....... uuugh...

So back at his office someone offered all these glass vials to me and wondered if i could make anything out of them his wife was cleaning out her craftroom (oh boy)........ i heard this little voice say........ 'just say no.....just say no' but i didn't . I took them.... and i have no idea what i'm going to do with them... Surely there must be some fantastically coooool thing i could do with them.....any and ALL ideas would be welcome..... excuse me while i go find hole in my craftroom to shove these into until... you know... until i get around to them........... :) Hugs! deb

Jinx and I........

.........have had ..... THE TALK .......... He is to leave my new plant alone!!  LOL! I'm sure he will keep this one neatly trimmed.  I honestly think going after my plants has turned into a game for him. He KNOWS he is not supposed to mess with them but he . just. cannot. help . himself..... :) While hanging this one up , under his expert supervision , two leaves fell off and ZING! he was off! He grabbed one and was headed downstairs before i could get off the latter to grab it...... but i got it away from him..... silly boy....  I think he has finally come to the conclusion that he cannot reach it... for now... and has given up stalking it.... for now.... This is what happens when a 'cat lady' is also a 'plant lady' ..... we have to think of clever ways to thwart our cats!.....Be back soon!!! Hugs! deb

Meet My New Friend........

Gamsol....... My friend Violet over there at Crafty Violet's Chaos let me in on this little secret a little while ago. I've been trying to get some good pictures to show you just what Gamsol can do for you. And i think i've finally done it..... I'm pretty sure you can click on the picture to enlarge it and i hope you do so you can see what i'm talking about.........

I'd never heard of Gamsol before have you?? Gamsol can take a colored pencil drawing like the one above and turn it into

THIS!! Can you tell the difference? I hope you can. You dip a blending stump in the Gamsol then rub it over your colored pencil and with a little patience it blends all the pencil strokes together seamlessly.... like ...well like magic! On the bottle it says it is made of pure mineral spirits.....

I had also heard you could use baby oil to achieve the same effect...... i tried that........ I did  some blending with the baby oil because it is the cheaper way to go but i do not believe it blended as well as the Gamsol...... And honestly i have used the Gamsol on several drawings now and have barely made a dent on the contents. So a little goes a long way.....

I have also heard that Gamsol works better with the better quality colored pencils . I first tried it on my drawings with Crayola pencils which i have used for years..... I saw a little blending but honestly i was disappointed...... i thought there would be more....... THEN  i used it on my Prismacolor pencils and WOW!  The pictures on this post were done with Prismacolor pencils....... I believe its because they have more pigment. But what ever it is ....I'm just calling it MAGIC! Thank you so much Violet! You definitely added a new dimension to my artwork! Hugs! deb

**Anybody care to hazard a guess as to what this drawing is gonna be?  :)
