The Week That Was...........

I'm a little late to the party my T stands for Tuesday Tea People... but truly after you see the week i've had its a wonder i'm even here and not lying in a puddle of exhaustion somewhere.... lol ..  After a 'gentle nudge' from our gracious host this week to post a tea / coffee/ cup/ pot related item i thought i'd take a photo of my coffee cabinet... You know even if the house is a mess and under construction, if i have my 'Coffee Zone' then somehow i'm grounded and i'm okay...lol.. Think i have enough coffee cups??? I'll bet i could have everyone over for tea and coffee! What do you think...which cup do you want??? :)

This week has consisted of mowing and picking up limbs and weedeating.....because even though we are under construction the grass does grow and the normal every day things need to be done...And YES thats ME on the mower....don't judge the hat....I HATE hats but i hate sunburn and ticks in my hair worse...so... I wear the hat and hope no ones looking... I'am out in the boonies after all........:)

I have scraped the popcorn off the ceiling in two bedrooms and a hallway.... let me tell you i have the technique DOWN!! It comes off like buttah! One trick i will tell you....... There are contraptions at the hardware store that are specifically made to do this...you put it on a pole... like a broom stick and it has a place for you to attach a small garbage bag...that theoretically will catch the popcorn as it falls.........Well let me tell you there is a learning curve to using this convoluted contraption.... you have to figure out the angle so it will glide across and then the bag is hanging in your way so its difficult to judge your angle.... and truth be told that bag only catches about 20% of the mess....so IMHO don't waste your money... Instead ...lay your tarps or plastic out get a ladder and a just a hand scraper... Mine is about 10 - 12 inches wide and just go at it... Spraying a little water on the popcorn and giving it a minute to set helps to keep the dust down..... I did one room a day...mainly cause my arm was give out... lol  Seriously though this is a really easy project and one i'm so glad i took on......

HI Hubby!!! We also pulled out the old insulation which was rock wool and put in new fiberglass insulation and then a vapor barrier , next step is sheetrock...woohoo!! You know i listed all that stuff and it doesn't sound like much......... but it consisted of so much more.... pull off the old sheetrock and carry it out to the trailer.. pull all the old nails...pull out old insulation... carry out to trailer...carry in rolls of new insulation.... put in walls... staple into place... go around with hammer and tap in all the staples that didn't go in all the way...uugh... Measure out and put up 4 mil vapor barrier ( plastic) ... staple in on... tap in all the staples ...again... then even though your tired  pull out the vacuum cleaner and clean up all the mess  because... you know... we have to live here... lol  there that sounds better.... a more accurate description....i'm tired just typing it...

Another project this week..........  This is a 1970 version of where to put your air condition/ heating ducting...... .. Under the window so the curtains cover it up............so i'm heating or cooling ...the window...???

So this is all thru out the house...sigh... Soooo while we have the ceiling tore out from downstairs its the perfect time to do something about it... really the only time ... so even though it slows down our completion time its something that needs to be done..........

See what we found when we took the ceiling out downstairs... none of the ducting was insulated! You can see the one we did... Let me tell you don't tackle that unless u have tons of patience.. LOL! The fiberglass that is inside that silver stuff is loose and just slides around..so you think all you have to do is slide this insulated tube on but NOOooo it just wads up and bunches grrrrr.... so ... You have to wrap the fiberglass around first ... tape it...then slip on the silver stuff .. tape it... Put the pipes back together ..... trust me one side will fall off while your putting the other side on grrrr... And finally i hold it up there while hubby puts on that hanger strap you see in the photo to hold the whole thing up... yeah... my shoulders and arms will never be the same... :)  And we only have a ton more to do.........

And finally the new register...... Now don't judge the color yet..this is the old carpet and i'm betting our new carpet will be darker...... :)

And finally we'll end with our trip to the dump today......OMGosh does it ever stink........the hotter it gets the stinkier it gets!  But you know i always come away from the dump rather sad....... all that trash...... I don't think i could take a photo that would show you the massive amount of trash...... Sure you could see the area but then you have to multiply that by however many feet it goes down... Its just humbling..... and sad...... The sad comes from how many still usable or recyclable things i see...... the plastic bottles and cans etc... not to mention the good wood and old red brick etc... Your not allowed more than 6 ft from your vehicle for safety reasons because of all the bulldozers and cranes etc.. running around but we did manage to snag a practically brand new heavy duty wheelbarrow!  And i grabbed something else i'll show you at a later date...... :)  Dumpster diving at the dump!!  :)  I apologize for the extra long post ....... I know the Tea  Party People have places to go... but its been awhile since i had a house post and i thought you might like to see whats going on! I can't quite see the light at the end of the tunnel yet but we are making tons of progress!! I'm so glad you popped by for a visit!!! Hugs! deb

A Mystery........

..........surrounding an opinionated post.... lol.... Have you every heard of people finding odd or valuable things in the walls of a house they are renovating??? In fact i think they even had a TV show about it called... 'If Walls Could Talk' or something like that... Well we didn't exactly find this in the wall BUT we did find a box shoved way back in the wet bar downstairs...OOOoooo believe me that was a little bit of excitement... I thought i'd show you what we found while giving you a review of some summer movies we've seen....

Avengers :Age of Ultron... good , fun summer superhero movie.. maybe we didn't enjoy it as much as the first but still a good movie.

Jurassic World......... another fun summer movie... little hesitant with this one... I mean how many Jurassic Park movies can they make? But truly after a slow start the movie ended up very very good....

Do you know who this fella is????  I thought he was Clark Gable at first... okaaay stop laughing now... lol ... If anyone would like to hazard a guess go ahead and i'll let you know if you were right and then next week i'll let everyone know... Anyway this is a 1964/65 promo picture...

Tomorrowland ...... with George Clooney.... hands down this was the best movie of the summer for us so far... both hubs and i agree on that... so original...its not the third of fourth of anything ... George Clooney has been making some quirky movies lately like Monuments Men....I don't think that one went over very well but i loved it....maybe cause i'm a little quirky... :)

Lots of old music in the box too....

Minions the movie... Aaaahhh save your money...seriously so disappointed with this one.... and i do not do cartoons but i LOVE the minions in Despicable Me 1 and 2 .... However they do not hold their own well in their own movie... I honestly think everyone in the theatre was bored by the end... I still love the character but the movie sucked........

And MORE music.....

The new Terminator movie ........ really a surprise here.... we almost didn't go... I mean bringing Arnold back in ANOTHER Terminator movie...seriously??? But honestly it was darn GOOD! If you like the Terminator franchise i don't think this one would disappoint you...  Arnold pulled it off surprisingly well .........

As you can tell by the header picture theres really not much to show you about the house yet... We are still ripping out walls and everything decorative is still in boxes... We are done ripping walls and the ceiling downstairs. Some electrical rewiring has begun... I've picked out two hallway lights... Hubs is dancing a jig about that because i'm having a hard time finding ceiling fans i like.... I wish i could remember the names of the ones i bought in CA because i loved them....  Anyway fixing to go to Lowes.com to see if i can find them........ :)

I'am typing this on Sunday and we are taking the day off... Went out for breakfast, picked up a few things and now we are home again... Hubs idea of taking a day off is going out in the 95 degree heat (feels like 104) and play in his shop.....uuughh... me its a day spent inside not sweating...Maybe thats why he's lost almost 30 pounds and i've only lost 20?  But hey we're whipping this house into shape and its doing the same to us... :)

More Music...........

More music................

I don't know what this picture came off of but all the yellow is actually gold foil... really pretty..........

This one is a little faded and looks quite old...  This is not the end of whats in the box but i thought i might spread it out for another post as its quite alot... So fun to find that mysterious box... there was also a large sewing box i haven't even dug into yet...

I looked at this last picture with a magnifying glass hoping i could see a tea cup for Elizabeth's Tea Party but....no...although i'm almost positive theres tea on the table behind them ...don't you think so?? Hugs! deb

A Little Prickly..............

I hope you'll click to enlarge!

Happy T Tuesday everyone! I hope you've had a fantabulous week! We've had a fairly unproductive one while getting tons and tons of rain..... You see, we had a full trailer and needed to go to the dump but we didn't want to get stuck in the mud...i mean 'dump mud ' is just nasty! So we twiddled our thumbs ... did what little we could... got some rest... And honestly i think its just what the doctor ordered... We are about halfway done with the tearing out the sheet rock in the house.. The bottom floor will be done today and then tomorrow we will start upstairs...

Theoretically, the top floor should go faster as we are just tearing out walls and not the ceiling too but i'll be scraping the ceiling to get rid of that 70's popcorn so that may take a little while as my arms give out... uuughh...
I sketched the above pictures while we were staying at Hubby's sisters for that month.... You know no matter how wonderful your hostess is , one just cannot help feeling a little 'prickly' when you are not in your own home... and i think that came out in the sketches... what do you think? lol  I really like the header sketch so you may see it again... i think i need a nice big bouquet of them..They were inspired by these wild flowers in the photo above... Can anyone tell me are they echinacea?  The header sketch also has gold highlights that did not show up in the scan....

I'm so glad you came for a visit... I KNOW how much you all love this mug so i didn't think you would mind seeing it again. It is the mug i drink out of most mornings ....  Big agenda today! We did manage to get the trailer dumped over the weekend , coming perilously close to getting stuck in the mud... but we made it.. Today hubs and i are working separately.... I'll be mowing and he'll be tearing the last bit of ceiling out downstairs...  I have to mow or the jungle will take us over! I hope you all have a wonderful week ..... and if your up to it don't forget to visit Elizabeth's T stands for Tuesday . A wonderful group of ladies that i'am very fortunate to know!  Okay! I'm off to mow the lawn!!!!! Hugs! deb

I Didn't Know............

You must be tired of Jinx related posts but such is life at the moment.... Arts and craftiness have left the building and our lives have become days of tearing out sheet rock and rewiring and making runs to the dump and in between are precious moments like this...............
Its a frog........... a resin frog that i had out in my garden in TX for a while... brought it inside to repaint and found that Jinx loved to rub on it now and then......SO... it stayed in the house instead of going back out to the garden...lugged it to CA and then to Arkansas...

Well a couple weeks ago i unpacked it and put it on the living room floor and called Jinx... He stepped sleepily out of the bedroom sat down and and contemplated actually coming when i called ( you know cats) when he spied the frog , he made a beeline for it... He greeted it like a long lost friend... like a piece of 'home' he desperately needed...

He rubbed all over it again and again,  and finally fell asleep with his head on the frogs feet..... Jinxy loves the frog..... I knew he liked the frog but no .... Jinxy looovess the frog.... I'll catch them now and then sharing a sun puddle for a nap...... If i knew just what good buddies they were i would have taken the frog with us in the pick up and put him in the laundry room with him for company.... I just didn't know..... just how much he cared for that resin frog...... Wish you could have been there as pictures just don't tell the story...

Joining Elizabeth's T stands for Tuesday Tea Party! I have to make another run to the dump before it rains so i'll be around a little later to visit everyone! Big Hugs! deb
