The Week That Was...........

Look at this handsome boy!!  The best time to catch a glimpse of the bucks around our place is at first light... when everything is completely still ... maybe a little mist or fog coming up out of the hollow.... We often see several bucks at the same time in the yard... they are still tolerating each other well ... Bow hunters line the roads early in the morning... I couldn't imagine trying to run that gauntlet as a deer.. If only they'd stay right here on my little 6 acres and they'd be safe...lol  I put out water and theres lots of grass... the occassional corn.. but thats not gonna find them a mate so they will leave.....

So, how was your week???  Last Tuesday as we were doing the T party we had one of our coldest days yet! You know i was in heaven! Now i'm sitting here and its 85 F  but lets not talk about that... lol  That day that was so cool was Oct 10 and lots happened that day... One .. Hubs and the neighbor declared war on hub's sisters plumbing... If you've been following along .. we've been fighting  her plumbing since we moved here 2 years ago.. tried nearly everything including bringing in some actual plumbers... She has a very old rock house.. like 1920ish.. very little room to actually get under the house to do anything.. but it had come down to no choice.. and look what they found in this little section of cast iron pipe!  The tree root went thru the cast iron!!

Looking at this pipe you would think we had never tried anything to clear it out.... We tried the whole roto rooter thing several, several times... poured rootkill down the line.. you name it we tried it.. she even bought a new toilet because nothing else was working..  Finally the guys rolled up their sleeves and got down and dirty....tore it all apart and replaced most of the cast iron with PVC pipe....As you can imagine she is soooo tickled she can flush her toilet now... something so simple but it can make your day.. lol

Writing has slowed but continues......
Lets see what else happened that nice , cool October day...  OH! While i was reading everyone's T party post i kept hearing this noise... i hadn't heard it much in a very long time... So i stepped out on the deck to investigate and lo and behold it was Geese!!! Flock after flock of Canadian Geese flying south!!! OMGosh it was a sight to see... I grabbed my hoodie and out the door i went.. i just had to be out there and be a part of the great migration... !! :)

I even made pumpkin bread that day!! 2 loaves... one to eat and one to share with the neighbors.. Gosh see what cool weather does to me!! I'm ashamed to say all the pumpkin bread was gone so fast i didn't even get a photo... It really turned out good.. I'm sure theres more in my future this Fall and i'll be sure to get a photo and share the recipe...

And to top off a wonderful day....... Hubs and i shined the flashlight out in the front yard before going to bed and there was a Momma Raccoon and two babies on the stump.... The stump is mostly hollow and i put peanuts and seeds and such down the hole and it keeps the squirrels and chipmunks and such entertained to clean it out..lol  Those babies were soooooo soooo cute! Too dark for a photo though.. If you don't know.. raccoons have a peculiar way they move.. they almost waddle side to side and to see the babies move that way was so adorable... Well geesh .. thats been my week... lol  I can't wait to come visit everyone and see how your week has been! Thank you Ms. Elizabeth and Bleubeard for hosting such a wonderful gathering... Hugs! deb

T Stands for..........

..........another finished projecT....... My sister in law gave this to me when we first moved here to Arkansas... she no longer wanted it... The black frame was pretty beat up and the glass face was out of it and whatever had colored the glass face was mostly gone.. So i cleaned it up and spray painted it black again...

......the real challenge came with using the alcohol inks on the glass.. never played with them before...  I had a hard time getting good coverage of the yellow.. kept leaving bare spots... then i had a brain fart.... turn it over... all the texture on the face is on the front ... the back is flat.... when that was dry i turned it over and did the drippy thing with the orange on the front... Hubs is not a fan of the 'drippy thing' .. but i LOVE it...

Oh i'm soooo happy there was some interest in my chicken pie... :) Here's the recipe... I've had it a long time and have made many a pie... It has never failed me.. i wish i could remember where i got it from to give credit but its been too long...

                                  Sour Cream Pastry Shell
1/2 c margerine softened
1 c sour cream
Beat these together... I've used a mixer and i've done it by hand and both turned out fine....
Add 1 egg,  1 cup of flour, 1 tsp baking powder, 1/4 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp poultry seasoning...
Mix all together and spread on the bottom and sides of a 9" pie pan...  Don't grease the pan or anything... I use a glass pan...

                                      Chicken Pie
1 small onion chopped small
1/2 c celery , chopped small , I use the heart (center)
2 tbs  margarine ( i usually omit this and use a spray)  Saute the onion and celery... then add..
1/4 c chopped parsley ( i use dried),   2 tbs chopped pimento ( i often omit this as i don't have it on hand)
2 c cooked chicken or turkey... (great for leftovers)
1 tsp Worcestershire sauce, pepper to taste
1 can cream of chicken soup
1 can (3-4oz) chopped mushrooms, undrained
Shredded cheddar cheese...

Mix together and heat thru everything except cheese .... Pour on top of the dough and put in oven... 400 F for 30 min.... I add the cheese , sprinkled on top after about 20 min...

The crust is fantastic and i have used it with other fillings... Although this filling is pretty good too... :)  Happy happy T day everyone! I'll be seeing you soon!!

New Day..............

..................and the sun is shining and the birds are back....To me it looks like Mama Bluebird is supervising bathtime for a young one... lol ...... Maybe not... and others are looking on.. waiting their turn..  I'm surprised the Bluebirds haven't left yet... Do you still have Bluebirds??  The Hummers have left.. I need to take down my feeders and put them away..

But first i think i'll take myself for a walk... Its so gorgeous i can't help myself.. Then i need to come back and get busy.. some house work to do.... maybe some chili in the crock pot.... then hopefully the craftroom..   :)  Looks like we're installing a toilet for sister in law this weekend... oy vey...........Hope your having a great week! Hugs! deb

Lackadaisical..............

...............waiting for my coffee to percolate i've been inspired the last few mornings to snap a few pictures of the sunrise off my deck... so pretty... the pictures really do not do it justice..

Its been a drippy , dreary kind of day around here.... rainy and wet... but for once no big storm to blow in ... just rain... dripping off the roof and pine trees... not a breath of wind... a hush about the place.. not a squirrel , not a bird or deer in sight..  Its not often it rains aaalll day around here...  but i love those kind of days...I'm most tempted to curl up with a good book on days like this and its difficult to get motivated to do anything...

My mother on the other hand liked to go shopping on rainy days.... i never understood that...  But we would go shopping and browsing.. running between the raindrops.. Maybe it was her way of fighting off the lackadaisical feeling that the rain brought on... Me? I just give into it i guess....

There's leftover pizza... so no cooking tonight... woot woot! lol I'm sure i'll find my way to the craftroom before long... Theres always a few projects in progress...  Somewhere along the way i've lost my glue gun... i have the glue sticks but no glue gun so i just purchased a mini gun.. I don't use it often so no need for a regular size gun.. And i purchased a few trinkets to go on another project i'll show you soon.. They turned out so cool... AND i did NOT do them all in copper... i had a good long talk with myself about my addiction to copper so i purposely did not do them ALL in copper.. lol  Well i better find something constructive to do even if all this rain is making my eyelids droopy... Hugs! deb

T stands for the Tale of the Chinamen.......

.......Its not really much of a 'story' per se... I think its just that we have a long history together.... Right around 20 years i think... They were not always on pegs.. i did that...  I worked for Lowe's for 15 years and thats where i met the Chinamen..  I worked in the Garden Dept and we had Bonsai trees and several of them had died on us and they were going to throw away the whole thing.. plant/pot/chinamen... Well the recycler in me... alive and well even back then couldn't do that so i asked if i could have them and thats where the adventure begins...

They looked like they were made out of gray clay and i was always going to 'do something with them' .. They moved several places  with me in TX then to CA and now to AR..and they never broke... They were just always 'so cool'... so tiny and so detailed..... i had to do something with them... So what i came up with is made up of stuff i have hauled from TX to CA to AR... The base is a piece of bamboo painted black... the moss is from another project..The only thing new is the pedestals....they are wood and i stained them... I played *heck* getting those pedestals to stay glued upright... I finally used wood glue and braced them until they dried...now they are strong.... I like how it turned out... it now sits on my rolltop desk where i write my letters and work on my book...

And for my T people over there at Ms. Elizabeth's and Bleubeard's ... In the cup is Cherry Coke Zero.... and i made a Turkey Pie.... If anyone is interested in the recipe just let me know.. If nothing else the crust is 'to die for'.... and then you can put any filling in it...I've used it with a burrito type filling before too....  Happy happy T day everyone! I'll be around to visit!! Hugs! deb

How to paint Colorful Abstract horses with a flair in Acrylics by Ginger...

Hi Everybody!

This is the first time i've tried to share a video on my blog but i just loved this one soooo much i thought i would give it a try... This is by Ginger Cook.. and i've been learning so much from her.. Most of all though i wish i could take an ounce of her confidence and bottle it and pull it out when i need it.... So if i post this right i hope you enjoy it and maybe check out Ginger's YouTube channel... She paints many different things and has lots of videos to choose from...  Hugs! Deb

PS... After rereading my post i guess it kinda sounds like an advertisement...lol  But honestly I have not been compensated in any way... I just happen to notice the share button on the video and checked it out!

Fall Arrives... Wednesday!!!

.... i know .. i know.. technically Fall has already arrived.... but its pushing 90 degreesF out there ... and in my little World ... Fall can never be 90 degreesF... lol  So... Wednesday is suppose to be 73 degrees F ... YEAH baby!!  Its a recycled coffee cup this week my T people........

Remember the girl from last week???  i hadn't used Gamsol on her yet......

Same girl.... I must remember to go easier on the makeup next time ..Wow!  Gamsol really brightened it up.... then... i couldn't stop doodling little flowers... um yeah... But i just love the color of her hair and eyes..

I want to take a minute and thank you all for the lovely comments you've given me on my arts and crafts that i've been posting like crazy lately.... I have so many pans in the fire... and actually i could show you even more that i have started or are in progress...I'm like a kid in a candy store in that new craft room...... but i thought i'd give you a break and show you what else happened this week.......................................................

Infact! This happened last night!   We have a habit of shining our flashlight out the front big window after dark and checking the feeders and birdbath out there... We have a raccoon thats been visiting and i just love to see his little bandit face... And sure enough he was there... But then in the distance i saw this 'little' ghostly shadow running back and forth across the yard and told hubby and he went out to inspect... and came back with THIS!
Now something has been digging up our yard.. making quite a mess of it really ... But we never did see anything... Well here it is ... one BIG armadillo !!   I was so glad hubby was able to catch him... Our neighbor wanted to come over and shoot him for us... seriously... what is it about people around here and killing animals.. Ofcourse most people see armadillos as a nuisance ... and they can be... he was a pain in the butt digging up my yard but he was just doing what armadillos do ... how can i kill him for that?  So we thru him in a container and took a drive and found a secluded wooded spot and let him go... I just hope he doesn't find his way home...

Wanna hear a short sweet fish story??  Hubs and i went fishing down off the dock a couple weeks ago...  Mostly you just catch perch there but i find it entertaining... I'm not a huge fisherperson but i do enjoy going for a little while... I'm just not someone to go sit for 8-10hrs in a boat.... no, no, no..  So we drop our lines in ...using nightcrawlers (aka worms)  We each catch a couple perch  then some big fish bends hubby's pole and breaks his line.. darn!  Then another big one bends his pole and he gets it up to the surface... its a catfish! and it breaks his line.... Then i get a hit and it bends my pole nearly in half... Now let me tell you its been a long time since i've had anything on the line other than a perch...  He was a good fighter! I'm grinning ear to ear and hubby scoops him up in the net..... I was Queen of that fishing trip!!!  Oh and we always practice catch and release.. Maybe he'll jump on my line next time!!!  Happy happy T Tuesday everybody!  I hope you've had an exciting week!!! Hugs! deb

GoodMorning.........

... Afternoon... Evening.... whichever applies my Tea People.... How are you???? I'm pooped... been running all over creation today and its 2pm and i'm finally home and plopped down to pull a T party post together... Above is that first attempt at woodburning... I almost wish it wasn't a scrap of cracked wood.. I still might trim it off and keep it.. its kinda pretty... But now i need to see how it shows up when i stain it... stay tuned...

Here's a lady i've been working on... This is without Gamsol ... I'm working on that now in the evenings while watching TV.... (pssst... showed her to hubby.... first thing he said ... 'she looks tired'..She does look tired... sigh figuring out eyes will be the death of me).lol

This is a macrame plant hanger i made in California... The paint got banged up a little in the move so i'm doing a little triage ...

Above is a stamp for a printing press... I found it at a flea mrkt in California.........Love the city scape....

The wood was rough looking like above...

So i stained it and painted the background black and i want to shine up the brass colored city and just set it on a shelf...

Started a Halloween canvas .... here nothing is glued down yet...figuring out placement... just the painted background is done...

I've dug out this old canvas to work on again... some long time followers might remember it.... I'm attempting to do a canvas like the drawing...All that detail is proving a little difficult...

Did you ever have a project just become a pain in your..... well butt??? Grrr.... so tedious and taking so long... Theres a story here and when i finish it i'll tell it to you...........

Now its possible.... that even after our wonderful visit together you might want to stay for a second cup of T ..... if you do... I actually made a few posts this week and i hope you'll visit if one piques your interest...

See what happened to that 'Bloody Owl'.....
                                    or
See the deer in their winter coats........
                        or
See what's inspired a new painting.........

Thank you Ms. Elizabeth for hosting such a lovely gathering.... I'll be around to visit... keep the kettle on! Hugs! deb

Remember the Bloody Owl......

Remember the bloody owl fiasco???I tried using that paint that sticks to plastic on my obviously rubber owl.......Bad idea... don't do it....

Well hubby saved the day and got all that nasty paint off... he used a parts cleaner to do it...i think....Then i gave her a couple coats of plain old gesso... It stuck to her like a charm... i could bend it and no cracking that i could see...

Then a coat of black acrylic paint.....

And i dry brushed it with antique copper....... I have it sitting on my bookshelves and you would never guess it was a rubber owl.... Love it when a plan comes together!   Especially sweet when it didn't start out well....

Still no tree trimmers.... Another hot Indian Summer day..... We have a meeting today with someone from the Beaver Lake Watershed Alliance.... he will test our soil for us and give some recommendations for landscaping and even some free trees and shrubs!!! I'm looking at Dogwood and Redbud and some Elderberry.... oh and some maple trees.... fingers crossed!! I hope your having a fabulous week!!! I've been enjoying posting more this week over coffee.... I have all these pics saved and if i only post once a week for tea i will never get to show them..... Thank you to everybody whose been stopping by!! Hugs! deb

Winter Coats for the Deer........

Can you see it??? The deer are starting to get their winter coats! The ticks have all fallen off to the ground so the females can lay their eggs....But the biting flies still bother them terribly and probably will until a freeze....

I remember my first year here... When i first saw them getting their winter coats i thought OMG the deer had mange! From a little distance it doesn't look like they are getting new darker hair in ... it looks like they are losing hair.. lol

Below is a buck thats been hanging around... I think he's last years fawn and this is his first set of horns...

Another view above and below you see them from a little while ago they were still in felt....Above the felt has come off... seems a little early to lose the felt but maybe not...

And this last picture was earlier in the year when he was first getting them... I wonder what they think about horns growing out of their head for the first time??  Or do they think of it at all?? The pics will enlarge so you can see better....

Well the tree people are just dangling me along... first they warn me they're coming then they don't come... I hope it stays that way but they are still running up and down the road doing their thing...

We are having a bit of Indian Summer this week... both days and nights have warmed up... I must say i have been enjoying the cooler nights... sleep so much better... The neighbor's 5 dogs have been waking me early... barking at 5am...sigh... but i drift back to sleep , too early... then the crows come visiting at break of dawn... and well Jinx... he knows your awake before you know your awake and he wants to be fed... best just to get up! lol  Be good!! Catch ya later! Hugs! deb

Inspiration........

.............. You never know where inspiration to create will come from.........  This is half of a two page ad for a car in a magazine... lol .i want to make a painting of it... The 'worm' looks like an inspired place to write a quote doesn't it???  Can you think of a good quote for this pic??

The last week was kinda stressful for me..... culminating yesterday... or so i thought ...but more likely today...  The electric company has been going around trimming trees... Now after the two hurricanes your sympathies may lie with the electric company...lol  I do realize they are only trying to keep tree limbs etc... off the lines but in my opinion they can be rather heavy handed with their cutting and often leave a terrible hacking job in their wake...  deformed trees....

Hubby and i walked around our property looking to see where they might cut and we don't see anything... the clearance to lines is suppose to be 10 ft... But my 10ft and their 10 ft seem to be two different animals........Hubby and i have to go to town today so we will no doubt see what they have done when we get back...  What can i say.. Its the Tree Hugger in me......... I'am quite ready for them to move on... Thank goodness i think they only come around ever 5 years or so... Hugs! deb

T Stands For..........

.........A finished projecT..............

All pictures should enlarge

...........that i absolutely love...........

All pictures should enlarge.....

......no matter how hard i tried... the pictures really do not do it justice.....that glitter on the poles is to die for... I'm sure you will see it in many many projects... its 99 cents at Walmart... This bright, colorful contraption will live in my craftroom to display i know not what ... yet...  :)

.....and T Stands for .... a new projecT begun.....

....... a new woodburning tool with lots of tips to explore..... This is a scrap piece of wood that i'm trying the different tips and techniques.... If i can figure this out i have a plan to add some woodburning to the house permanently... in two maybe three places... It will be alot of work but i think it will really add to the house......

We have family in Georgia .... so even though they may  not feel the brunt of Hurricane Irma i'm sure it will still be a harrowing experience.... please keep them in your thoughts.... Quite alot on our environmental plate these days between hurricanes and earthquakes....and i know not what else.... I wish for everyone a safe passage.....Happy T day! Hugs! deb

Its T Day!!! ...........

Hi everybody!!! Hows my T people?? Have you had a good week???? Its been a busy week around here... lots of projects at completion or nearing completion... thats always fun.... I'm still writing!! If you look close you'll see a Chapter 4 but i took that earlier in the week and i'm actually on Chapter 6!  My goal... is to finish it... I've started so many stories and books in my life and i always lose interest and set it aside and this one... I just want to finish it..... I sit down with my coffee in the morning and write one line or several pages... just something... so far so good.......

This Dude showed up in my sketch book this week.... rather dapper isn't he??

Ms. Eileen sent me two PostCards... actually the one above is for Jinx and he just loved it.... The texture on this card is wonderful and i love the story of the 'Crooked Little House'....

And this one is from Eileen too.... She tells me its cheating because its a print.... I tell her 'pish posh' how is that cheating??  Its still her wonderful art.....!!

Now hubby ... he was the busy one this week... I just kinda stayed out of the way.... We had a few 'cooler' days and he decided it was time to put the glass blocks in the hall bathroom..... We took out a window.....

And boarded it off while......

We figured it out..........

A few YouTube videos and some ingenuity later.....

.......the window was in...... i apologize for the terrible glare... my camera was just not handling it well....

Our neighbors ..... that we helped with their house.... had bought extra 'crete board' for their shower and gave us the extra so that is all in now in the above pic... Now we wait for tile... We are not quite ready to put out the $$ for the tile... But at least now i have a wall... and its insulated and i'm very happy :) !! I hope everyone has had a fabulous week.... i'll be around to visit!!! Hugs! deb
