Deconstructing Christmas.........

..........Christmas decorations always look a little sad after the Holidays to me... you?  Its like they have a shelf life and for me thats right around the New Year they need to come down...

....the tree has been taken down and all the decorations lovingly packed away for another year... or two... who knows maybe Scrooge will visit next year... Not having any children in the house kinda leaves it up to me whether i decorate or not...

Whether putting it up or taking it down it can be quite a chore... Its hard to get motivated to do either but once i make the decision and get moving on it , i enjoy the process...

Last box and done......

Kinda looks like an ice bomb went off.... doesn't it?  It warmed up enough the other day i could finally break out all the ice in the bird bath and i put in luke warm water from the faucet in the house and i could help but think of the birds calling to each other say 'come on! its a sauna up in here' lol

An end of Holiday post would not be complete without a glimpse of some holiday sales... These are slate boards....I thought of painting a snow scene/snowman on each one and giving them for presents next year if they turned out well...

.....and if i mess it up ... i got it for a deal!

Some yummy PostCards from my SwapPartners .. This was from Krisha.....

And this one from Eileen... I think she showed it on her blog post already... I just love it! And all that texture came thru the mail just fine... the only piece a little loose was that wonderland word... I don't know what glue you've been using lately Eileen but i think maybe it doesn't like the cold.. ??  Well i hope everyone had a great first week into the new year.. My coffee cup in the header will have to suffice again this week... Take care and i 'll be around to visit everyone! Happy T day Hugs! deb

You look as though you are keen to get going on New Year crafts Debs. I didn't feel like decorating this year as you can imagine, but I put one or two things up in each room for the sake of the children. Now they are all away again and things are more or less back to normal.

It's always a strange feeling packing the decorations away. Love those slates, a real bargain. Happy T Day, hugs, Valerie

Yes, they do have a shelf life. Except for my colored twinkling lights that I keep up around the patio door and studio window all year round--LOL!

Real deal on the slate boards! I bet the birds are glad to see some water. Have a really nice week. :)

Yes , our house looked a bit bare when we took the decorations down, but it didn't take long to get the feeling of normality back.
The slates look a bargain but, you will have fun altering those.
Happy T day wishes.

I love that phrase, Deb - "deconstructing Christmas." I haven't started yet. You'll see why when you visit me for T this week.

Besides, in my mind, the Christmas season ends with the Epiphany when the three magi, guided by a star, arrived in Bethlehem. So yesterday, the feast of the Epiphany, was the last day I lit my tree.

Now my tree and decorations do look a bit sad. So I need to do some deconstructing -lol. The house does look nice and fresh once that's done. So it's all good, right?

I love the postcard Krisha sent you. I asked Santa for some fresh glue and Santa was very good to me ;-)

Happy T-day! Hugs, Eileen

We finally finished taking down the holiday sparkle this past weekend, but now everything needs to get put away in the attic. Hopefully it will warm up enough this weekend to go up into the attic because I just want to get it done. It's so much work to do the switch over-on either end of the holiday. But like you, once done, I feel very good about it. Hope you get warmer weather and happy T day. Hugs-Erika

Oh I could have written the same words about the Christmas decorating Deb-and despite the work I do love it too. Great deal on the slates-you're off to a great start on the next Christmas. Isn't it funny how the birdies get so used to our spoiling them? It was SO bitter cold the water in my ground water dish(which is NOT heated) had to be replenished at least several times during the day.I emptied and took it in once it got dark. One day it was so cold I just didn't bother and the birds and squirrels kept going to the empty spot looking for it. Kinda comical along with watching them nip at the snow and ice for their water. Happy T day!

I took my decorations down two days after Christmas. I was SO sick of Christmas it wasn't funny. My decorations had been up since the day after Thanksgiving, and I was ready to have my house back in order and items back where they belonged. I'm not sure why, but it seems to take longer to put things away than get them out.

Your postcards are fabulous, and you got a super deal on those WalMart bargains. I think you will enjoy working on the slates and they are really going to make great gifts, too.

It got so cold here, the cats water bowl was frozen solid in the kitchen. My furnace just couldn't keep up. I moved the two boys and their water and food upstairs to my office, because it was the only warm room in the house. I didn't have to go outside for frozen water!

Thanks for sharing your deconstructed Christmas with us, along with your mug of tea for T this week, Deb.

i did not have many decorations up this year (no tree - as the adult sons said i Need not make one for them). but yes, it´s always strange, how the mood changes so fast after Christmas and the new year seems to be in full swing already...
love the slates, would have bought them too, i´m curious what you will come up with.
happy t-day and have a nice week!

Hello, Happy New Year my friend!
Yes, taking dwon the decorations always feels a bit sad I feel. We usually take everyting down after Epiphany (Three Kings or Reyes here in Spain). It is the main holiday here, people (especially children) get their presents. So after that, it is the end of the festivities.
I love the idea of the slates. Looking forward to seeing what that results in next year.
Eileen's card is beautiful. I was supposed to have received one too, but it never arrived. Such a shame.
Happy T-Day,
Lisca

We had a 5 year old in the house this year so decorating is a must. But I have to say, I don't much care about putting up a tree anymore, but I NEED lights. Lots of colored, cheerful and twinkling lights. I'd keep them up all year if I could. When I worked, I had them around my ceiling and left them up all year to give me a lift when I needed one.
xx, Carol

Our Christmas decorations are all packed away too, don't you find that your rooms look huge now they are all away...lol 😉. I still have my new winter decorations and seasonal window display to keep me happy and I may even make a winter wreath too 😁. You got such a bargain and those slate boards will look wonderful with your snow scenes drawn on them, I can wait to see them 😁. Your SwapPartner postcards are amazing - how lovely to receive such beautiful art work and inspiration! Wishing you a very Happy T Day! J 😊

I feel the same way about Christmas decorations. Sad to take them all down, but sad to look at them too many days after Christmas.
Love those postcards!

We kept our decorations up until 12th Night so they were only up for three weeks! I am excited enough before Christmas (with my birthday too) but like to feel as though Christmas can last a little longer by leaving the decorations up till then! We noticed how dark the shopping mall was without the lights! I hope you get to make something wonderful with the slate! The thought of the birds in a sauna made me smile!Happy T Day! Chrisx

I always feel a bit sad when I have to take Christmas down but I really enjoy having up for a full month. I think that makes me fully enjoy it knowing it is only for a short time. I love after Christmas sales too! Hope you make some beautiful art.
Happy Tea Day,
Kate

It's always a bit sad to put away the christmas decorations - but I like spring so much more than winter that it isn't that big drama for me - I have already changed decoration ... Happy - belated - T-Day my friend!

Happy rest of your week!

Love the birdie figurines in your header. I think one gets tired of seeing all the decorations up after a few weeks or so. And not being able to easily clean around. Decorations are fun to put , but such a chore to put away.
